Per our U.S. Constitution, the rubes of The Badlands and the Cowboy State hold infinitely more sway than the illuminati of our major cultural centers located in or near large metropolises. No wonder a jerk like Donald Trump can rock this pathetic boat to its core. Faith in the so-called wisdom of the founding fathers is sadly misplaced. There shouldn't even be a Senate. Lawmaking ought be left to the House of Representatives alone (as I opined recently in another thread). There's only one way to fix this sinking ship and that is to rewrite the Constitution.

Or move to a different country. Our constitution isn't going anywhere.

The purpose of the senate is to keep federal laws from passing when States can deal with the problem in their own ways. The constitution was made to give states the ability to deal with issues in their own way. You can live how you want in your state and others can live how they want.

The question isnt why you can't do what you want, because you can on a state level. The question is why do democrats want to make everyone else live like them, by implementing their policies on a federal level.

We need a smaller federal government if our country is to keep from tearing itself apart. We need people to be able to be who they want within their own communities.

No matter what fix is applied to the Constitution it will still be doomed to be interpreted by partisans with conflicting ideologies. Human nature is the larger problem that no Constitution can fix.

i'm afraid i could NEVER vote to ratify any new constitution written by david koch, and he will never allow one to pass that i would accept.

you would be shocked to discover how few state legislators it will take to call a constitutional convention.

We can do that. Its called a constitutional convention and it lays out how the states are to vote on changes to the constitution. But do it outside of this process and delegitimize the Union. The Constitution (including the prescribed method to alter it) is a contractual obligation between the states and fedgov to form a union. Thats why the states have a vote in changing it. If fedgov breaks the contract and alters the constitution unilaterally, theres nothing to keep the union together. The states are still states without fedgov, but fedgov is nothing without the states.

Are you calling for a legit constitutional convention, or are you suggesting the constitution be rewritten without the states consent?

What are you telling us for?? Get on the phone, call your Congress Critter and Senators, and get them to sponsor proposed Constitutional Amendments to disband the Senate. Of course, getting 2/3rds and 3/4ths of the States to agree to such a thing will be very difficult, but if your idea is so wonderful, surely you can lobby them enough to get the votes, no? Telling us it needs to be done is really just a waste of electrons.

Ahh, poor wittle things. The Babeuvian Illiterati who have turned our nation's cities into failing crime-infested economically-depressed shitholes can't get their entire caucus, much less the entire country, behind another one of their partisan self-serving power grabs, so they go bawling about how we need to rewrite the Constitution that was written with power-hungry authoritarians like them in mind.

    Boo-hoo. :blownose:

If there's one thing we've learned from the Demokrats' colossal failures in our nation's cities over the past 50 years and in Washington since they took control of Congress and the White House in January 2021, it's that the Left can't govern, but there's a way to fix that problem, and that's the same way we fixed it in Virginia - at the ballot box.

We'll see you arrogant and incompetent losers again in November.

Our constitution is regarded worldwide as the best such instrument ever written.
Why would anyone think for a moment that some air-headed radicals could possibly do better?

We do have a constitutional problem, but it's not the Constitution- it's failing to enforce it; tolerating abuse and distortion of it.
Trump objected to that; obviously you endorse it.

We don't even have enough support for saving voting rights let alone ditch the big C. But your observations on how our government is structurally anti-democratic, that is, far too protective of the minority, are spot on.

LOL. Yes, let's throw the Constitution out the window so that everything can be done my way. We can use a popular vote in our favor as a means to overthrow the Constitution and institute socialistic one party rule that can never be challenged. Then we will claim we are a socialistic country who democratically elects our leaders - just like Venezuela and Russia do. We'll call it Democratic Socialism. The government will have total control over everything and everyone and no one will ever have any wants again.

You won't find many who agree with your opinion. Certainly not me. I hope you don't think there are "illuminati" that are smarter than those of us who live away from cities.

When states run afoul of it’s citizens constitutional rights the Fed needs to step in, for instance the ‘65 Voting Rights Act.

Unfortunately the SC gutted that piece of law on the premise sections of it were no longer necessary contrary to the evidence.

So now we have states doing precisely what the ‘65 law protected citizens from them doing. Our past—unfortunately our present—dictates those sections of the law were and are necessary. Our legislature has spent a decade in futile attempt to get the line redrawn and everyone should be on board with them doing so and bizarrely are not.

Our constitutional rights should not be subject to the whims of the states. That is the line that always has to be drawn.

not always, but the 14th amendment, "equal protection under the law," was passed just after the whacky believers in "states rights" were entirely defeated at appomattox courthouse .

"article 2 says i can do anything i want" and the deluded followers who agree with him.

A liberal that loathes the US Constitution. Not exactly shocking.

Also noted is the typical liberal hate for anyone who does not live in a big city run by liberals.

Don't forget the Interstate Commerce clause that the Supreme Court says applies to everything and lets the Federal Government do anything.
