Oh no! A filibuster! Does that mean racism by the Dems?

Dems block Cruz's Nord Stream 2 sanctions bill

Senate Democrats on Thursday blocked legislation from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to slap sanctions on businesses tied to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, a win for the Biden administration, which believes such sanctions could damage relations with Germany.

Senators voted 55-44 on Cruz’s legislation, falling short of the 60 votes needed for it to pass. Democratic Sens. Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Mark Kelly (Ariz.), Jacky Rosen (Nev.) and Raphael Warnock (Ga.) joined every Republican save Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in voting for the bill.

The vote on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which will carry gas from Russia to Germany, comes at a delicate moment for White House as it navigates renewed tensions with Moscow over its buildup of troops on the border with Ukraine.

Weird! After decrying the filibuster as racist or something, the Democrats are using it to support...Russia? Rhetoric is a long way from reality. Just so we all know who the Russian stooges are.

I'm not the biggest fan of sanctions myself, but it's absolutely ridiculous that they'd use the filibuster while trying to have it repealed.

Politics makes strange bedfellows, and tactics. Russia's buildup is nothing more than sabre rattling. Odd how the bellicose blunderers are so easily frightened,

Russia wasn't saber rattling in 2008 and 2014.

any more than it is theirs who we buy oil form

yep, had the filibuster been changed, this would have passed, it has not been changed... good point (not sure why you say the filibuster is racist though?)

So they occupied Crimea and this gave them a city where they already had the majority of their warm water fleet anyway. If they wanted Ukraine they would have taken it then.

You don't send slaves and gold home from the provinces anymore. You have to take care of your conquests nowadays. Empires are just too costly.

One of the many talking points of the Democrats is that the filibuster is a tool of Jim Crow.

"This for me but not for thee".

The Democrats like it as long as they are the only ones who can use it.

    NPR has it for ya.

    https://www.npr.org/2021/03/30/9824...mocrats-point-to-its-civil-rights-era-history

"Let's honor him by revitalizing the law that he was willing to die for. And by the way, naming it the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, that is a fine tribute," Obama said, going on to list ways voting rights could be protected.

"And if all this takes eliminating the filibuster — another Jim Crow relic — in order to secure the God-given rights of every American, then that's what we should do," he said.

Obama's phrase, "Jim Crow relic," has been adopted by activists and elected Democrats all the way up to President Biden. Democratic strategist Joel Payne said it is an effective way to reach people.

yep, I still never heard it, did you hear that the GOP want to make it legal to stone gay people

"Oklahoma GOP candidate: Stoning gays the 'right' thing to do"

    https://www.msnbc.com/the-last-word/gop-candidate-stone-gay-people-msna347586

course we all know just cause someone on the right said it, doesn't mean everyone on the right agrees with it
