Good. Unfortunately the school undid her teaching moment and just reinforced the kids bad behavior.

Segregation and not putting up with students nonsense daily are two very different things.

We are worse off for punishing her because she didn't have the patience that morning to deal with ridiculous student behaviour #352.

She should absolutely not have been fired and I even dare say not punished as the kid demanding to be referred to as a cat was being disruptive and ridiculous.

Which of the school's ethical standards are you referring to?

The school probably has restrictions on what they can say about a termination depending on the agreement with the teacher's union.

Possibly but I couldn't even find the usual official 'no comment' statement made by school boards etc in this kind of situation. Not to mention the union would likely have something to say about it and the fact that in these kind of cases other parents/students from the school normally start throwing their own '10c worth' around online as well. Point is I couldn't find anything. Just makes me a little sus that's all.

There is 0 evidence that this teacher was fired because she didn't recognize the student as a cat.

As I said I'd like to see some independent confirmation that the scenario was as claimed and that the sacking of the teacher, if it happened was for the reason stated. And as I noted I found nada.

Absolutely a teacher can be fired for what she did. It's even written into our contract, with the main sections of the contract being laid out as a claws.

Never said he did. But he was upset enough to run out because the teacher wouldn't affirm his belief. As well she shouldn't.

There is a time and place for everything under the sun. Classroom time is a time to learn. Not to believe you're a cat. Yes, there is a time to let children be children. Its called recess when at a school setting.

And there is such a thing as being excessively empathetic. When children are children is the time to start teaching them that the world is not a nice place. Having them learn it on their own when they're already adults and IN the world only creates problems. At least in the classroom it can be minimized to a degree. It allows them to grow thicker skin without leading to the problems we now have in this country. Imagine people with thicker skin during this pandemic. We would have had far less suicides and depression cases if people weren't such snowflakes.

We have kids being told that they were born evil by being born white- by teachers. The school is a place to learn, to gain knowledge; not to play pretend games.
Teaching our children the difference between fact and fantasy is critically important for their future lives.

Yes, people not only believe, but know damned well that this insanity has to do with all the wild hair movements of the left and the many weird radicals they embrace.
NONE of which should be tolerated anytime nor anywhere.

There are no legitimate tran-species or trans-gender people, no genuine gender changes. Trans applies to a alternate fashion- but of the same thing. When you trans-late a sentence from english to spanish, it still says the same as it did before- but it's "dressed" differently. A transgender person- IS the same gender they were born to, disguised and sometimes distorted to appear as something else. Thus it's a self-delusion carried to the extreme, and then demanding the rest of society lie to itself to support that delusion. A man pretending to be a woman is still a biological man- a fake woman. Removal of body parts not change that, any more than the loss of a hand or finger does. Having plastic surgery so your face makes you look like some celebrity- only makes you a fake, not a celebrity. Pretending such a person has actually become the illusion is to accommodate their delusion for the comfort- the avoidance of reality in the minds of such people, and that is a very unhealthy thing for society to do. I don't mean they can't disfigure themselves and pretend if they wish- I do mean that the rest of the world has no cause to help them pretend it's real.

No one is being taught they are evil because they were born white.

Some people might feel guilt because they cannot acknowledge white privilege, but being taught about the existence of white privilege isn’t the same thing as saying white people are evil.

I'm all for toughening kids up - but do you think that should include teachers making fun of them and belittling them in front of their classmates?

She admits she shouldn't have done it, then complains about getting fired.
Bullying a student is not acceptable behavior. Let their parent bully them with hard lessons, that's not the teacher's job. Unless you're one of those "it takes a village" filthy hippie types who thinks parents shouldn't have the say in such instances.

The point was that your waxing philosophic about yesteryear has no effect on whether or not this woman breached her ethical duties in the current day.

She bullied an 8 yr old, in her little rant she even admits she shouldn't have done so. She got fired for being a bully, which I'm ok with. You can correct a child without bullying them.

Then she should've sent him to the office which is the proper punishment, not to bully him in front of the class.

You've been watching the kool-aid news; they avoid publishing news that puts the radicals in a bad light. They do that to keep YOU in the dark.
There are many reports on this incident, such as this one-
    https://torontosun.com/life/virginia-child-asked-mom-if-she-was-born-evil-because-she-is-white

The entire concept of "white privilege" and "white supremacy" in themselves are concepts developed as racist weapons for the hate crowd.

Which majority made a system- depends on who was there, and there is nothing nefarious about that. It also depends on who was aggressively productive and pursued development, if there were others groups who did not. No system has ever been or ever will be perfect- but more importantly, no matter how beneficial and just it is, there will always be those alleging they are disadvantaged by it..... Usually, the same people who lacked the motivation to pursue and build on their own and expected to just share in the production of others.

Africa is a nation with black supremacy- in terms of them being the large majority of the population and controlling the various governments. It's a continent with vast natural resources as well. Africa is also considered to be the place where life began, thus has had the most time to develop. Read up on the quality of life there, and it's obvious that they almost universally failed to do so. Nearly everything in the way of advancement in Africa has come from the European and western worlds.... and generally from Caucasian people.

The supremacy of white people as well as what the ignorant think is "white privilege" has not been the result of being white- but of being productive, of pursuing knowledge and developing a culture supporting a more productive culture and community, a higher standard of living and a higher standard of personal abilities and performance. We know that black people have generally equal tools to do these things. While many black individuals have excelled and proven this, the percentage who reject the concepts of responsibility for their own position in life seems to be disproportionately large compared to other races. As a result- they "under-privilege" themselves. When you won't compete, you abdicate your relative standing, your share of supremacy- and then blame others for not lowering the bar so you will be "equal" without having to get up and reach for it. This is not about color, but about culture and mindset- promoted, repeated and handed down by each generation, creating victim-hood, dismissing accountability for your own emotional state and actions... avoiding all responsibility for the fate of your race and culture by blaming it all on others.

It's not new. The wisest blacks knew this was inherent in the black community a hundred years ago. Among others, Booker T Washington said this:

"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs."

Racism and discrimination were all but dead, when the people of that mindset found they could recruit the gullible liberal minds as a trojan horse to carry their need for racism back to the mainstream, they were eager to renew the image being victims of racism. What they ignore is the damage to the black community- the resurrection of not only the sympathetic privilege they hoped to gain by painting all white people as their persecutors, but the fact that they would actually be reviving the belief that black people were inferior. Every time a person looks at the news and sees some black person ranting and screaming hate, justifying crime and excusing themselves for being violent, irrational malcontents... the image of black people is reduced.

Now I'm aware you will understand none of this; will dismiss it out of hand. I go to detail here for the others who may read this post, so that the perspective on the subject has some balance.
White people cannot fix the problems of the black community- because the real problems today aren't lack of opportunity.... they are lack of the proper mindset in so many of that community. That will control their behavior- and their behavior will control the perception of the rest of the people, good or bad. The image and future of black people today IS in the hands of black people, both individually and as a community.
Until the majority of the black community accepts that responsibility and expects more of their piers, their position will not improve. You can lower the bar legally.... Such as one school that eliminated the "F" or failing grade because it was too common among black students and therefor must be racist... but that will not lower the bar, not improve the perceptions of blacks in the minds of the general population- it will only damage it. The greatest damage those people do is to the best of their own race, the worthy, respectable people who be seen as potentially the equivalent of the worst of their race, who are getting a lot of exposure. The real suppressors of black people today- are black people. It's up to them to change their image- and blaming the rest of the world is a damn poor way to do it.

Should we include allowing kids to turn class rooms into game times, and expect teachers to become disney characters?
Teachers- have a job. It's a very important job and impacts the future of those children.
I for one would support backing the teachers a lot more- and holding parents responsible for the lack of respect in their children.
