    331,893,745 divided by 25,737,256 = 12.9
    12.9 x 42,970 = 554,313
    1800000 divided by 554,313 = 3.25

America locks up its citizens at 3.25 times the rate Australia does.

To be fair, the figure for the USA is probably a few million higher since the US isn't as good at controlling its borders as Australia.

The Houses were in NT and for people flying into Australia as were the hotels. Yes we knew there was some transmission within the hotels but better there than out in the community. All of this was temporary UNTIL we could get the vaccination rate up.

He was talking rates not combined death so population matters

Total deaths from covid, USA 877,240 Australia 2,837
US population 12.9 times larger than Aus.
    12.9 x 2,837 = 36,598
    877,240 divided by 36598 = 23.96
So for every Australian that died from covid 24 Americans have died.

Sweden who let covid do what covid does, has the same spike due to Omicron.
Guess it still gets those who did nothing. But the more deadly early variants took way more Swedes.

Its not to difficult to get rates. Rates still favor Australia by a long shot.

That is because we, in general, have not overwhelmed our health care system - strained it certainly but not (yet crossed fingers) overwhelmed it. The death rate has soured everywhere that the hospitals have been stretched to capacity and beyond

I don't 'believe' anything. I simply quoted one set of metrics that indicates that might be the case. (Note the emphasis on the word might.) There are many possible ways of measuring a nations degree of 'freedom' that would give alternate outcomes. Obviously a lot depends on what metric you use. Both America and Australia are democratic nations with free elections, independent courts systems and the rule of law, presumably then they're always going to measure up reasonably well not matter what measurement tool you choose.

The thing is though your the one who turned this thread into a 'dick measuring' contest, not me. And you only have the Texas sharpshooter fallacy to blame. Your the one who decided to select a purely arbitrary set of measurements (differences in COVID policy) and then lay down the law by saying they conclusively 'prove' Australia is than free than the US, ignoring in the all other the potential metrics (like free elections etc) that can be applied.

All I did was point to an point a measuring tool that says otherwise, one that uses whole lot of other data points, not just COVID policy to come up with a measurement of freedom, one that completely repudiates your own.

Listen here commie scum! America has the freest freedom in the world. If you ain't got American freedom you are a slave. Hear that slave??? You got no freedom!!!! Fox said so.

It is endlessly fascinating to me that citizens of the wealthiest & most powerful nation in history can combine insecurity, ignorance and childishess in one big package. You would think that people from such a nation wouldn't be much fussed about what others think. They certainly say they do, but god forbid you suggest that they aren't the bestest at everything ever. Tanty time.

The idea that anyone might do something better seems gets treated like a dire threat.

Then the likelihood is you'll die. Public health measures are not indicators of a "police state."

    ESSENTIAL liberty, ESSENTIAL.

I find the freedom to die from a horrible disease that is easily preventable to be far from essential. I think Poor Richard might agree.

' ~ Joe Biden said he will put a mandatory quarantine on Covid19 and if it sneaks outside without a mask it will be fined .
After that he will find cures for cancer.

Are you trying to compare Australia to America?

Which country has a bigger population? America. So how can you compare America to a smaller country?

I think he completely missed the entire point of this thread.

I saw that too. He has no defence for the op and tries to compare one of the biggest countries in the world to a smaller one.

But that still leaves 10% unvaccinated and the vaccine does not stop you from getting COVID it just reduced very substantially your chances of ending in ICU and dying.

Even accounting for the population difference we still have far fewer impacted

it was the Trump guidelines, the shutdown and the reopen guidelines

how many States have reached the Trump reopen guidelines to date?

Trump declared this a national emergency, and declared himself a wartime President, with wartime powers

America has 350,000,000 people. Australia has 25 million. That is 12 x not 54. Comparison is apt and shows Australia doing MUCH better.

Its called basic maths. If that is too difficult and you need more direct comparisons, try these:

Texas: 29 million people, 77,000 COVID deaths.
Florida: 21 million people, 63,000 COVID deaths.
Australia: 25 millon people, 2800 COVID deaths.

If America had the same number of COVID deaths by population as Australia you would have had less than 37,000 deaths. You have had over 850,000.

Bring every excuse, distraction & BS excuse you want, that is a MASSIVE difference. Even on our worst day America still lost more people per capita the same day. America's worst days have comfortably exceeded our total deaths for almost two years.

By all means disagree with our methods, but they saved lives. LOTS of lives.
