Child abuse in the Catholic Church
Just a few cases out of many:
    https://www.dw.com/en/ex-pope-benedict-xvi-failed-to-act-in-child-abuse-cases-report/a-60494714
    Shocking!
    What should the consequences be?

    In short:
If a priest marries, he loses his job at once.

If a priest rapes children, he just gets transferred to another village where he is not known, so that he can continue raping children there.
    Is that "Catholic justice"?

I believe that was probably a problem long before there was any religion. No doubt the fear of god would make it easier.

The latest in 10,000 such stories. The RCC cares only for its existence which includes these vile priests, and never mind the innocents. Benedict should have been arrested and charged with child abuse along with anyone else who covered up such crimes. The scum of the earth, who will burn in Hell for their crimes.

I don't think there was ever a time before we had the scourge of religion.

From my youth, the Catholic Church seemed spooky. I think it was all the icons, and the Priests standing around like vultures. Then again, pretty girls, bullies, School Principles, and my older Brothers lectures also scared me.

But what to do about pedophiles? Don't go to that Church for starters. Let the secular laws punish the abuser. As for the Church itself, they move the abuser around to allow for repentance and forgiveness, not to endanger others. In the end, one isn't forced to attend Church. So swim at ones own risk.

Regarding victims advocacy, imo it is best left between the victim and God. In my experience, it is not so much the circumstance into which we are born or the things that happen to us which define us. But rather how we react or respond to it.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us that we all sin. And that to receive Gods absolution for our sins, we must ourselves extend forgiveness to others. This seems equitous to me. I also believe it to be wise and healing, in that it frees us from the bitterness and hatred which is far more damaging to our psyches than the trespass itself, should we choose to harbor vengeance.

Does the LDS church fire sex offenders as a matter of policy?

This new skandal really has a new dimension.

It seems that Ex-Pope Benedict protected a priest, who was criminal child abuser , in his time as Arch-Bishop of Munich.
And just sent him to another parish where that priest could go on raping other children.

Exactly. There has always been some Elmer Gantry type looking to make a dollar selling his influence with the Gods).

What if it turns out that Ex-Pope Benedict has told a lie?

Priests should be allowed to marry and be encouraged to marry.

this whole "sex is evil and gross" bullshit in the RCC, has severe consequences, namely mass enrolement by pedophiles

    Pretty basic.

The Church should defrock and report sex offenders to the authorities for prosecution.

Any Church official who fails to act should be defrocked, as well. If their inaction is somehow criminal, then they should be reported to the authorities, as well.

The Church has an obligation to protect its flock and bring predators to justice. Forgiveness is God's to give.

What I find ironic...as with so many areas of sin in our society, some people chose to persecute and belittle the entire Catholic Church for the actions of a few sinful people. With that attitude, lets punish the entire nation because of the actions of a few in Washington.

Would that really help? There are a lot of married men who are pedophiles, even married family members.

This isn't unique to the Catholic Church it isn't even unique to religion in general. The boy scouts of America are being sued over hiding pedophiles from 65 to 80.

People cover this up because they don't want people to feel unsafe. When what these organizations should be doing is calling it out.

It seems like the Catholic state has been doing this for about 1700 years since it's inception basically. But I think the only reason they've been doing it longer is because they've been around longer.

What should happen to the priests is first they are exposed. And people might say this is going too far I don't think it is they want to act as a shepherd they need to be held to a higher standard. Praying on children is probably one of the worst most vile crimes I can think of. Anybody who participates in a cover-up anybody who participates in the sexual abuse or other kinds of abuse because that happens too it should be immediately excommunicated never to return. And the church should require the diocese other members anybody who knows about it to report them to the police and they should be thrown to the mercy of the justice system of the community which they raped.

If that means hanging so be it happens to anybody who does that sort of thing in the jurisdiction that they act as a Shepherd too.

Failure of the church to do this should be seen as a hostile foreign incursion. These are actors of a foreign state abusing our communities

In Germany news are coming in now that the former Pope Benedict XVI has now declared that he has not spoken the truth in that case.

I will try to find those news in English now.
