Interesting article on Ruy Teixeira, the Democratic developer of the Great Replacement theory, from his book The Emerging Democratic Majority, and lead to a wholesale shift in Democratic policy in favor of open border.

    Looks like it backfired.

    Confessions of a Liberal Heretic
Ruy Teixeira was co-author of one of the most influential political books of the 21st century. Now, he says, Democrats are getting its lessons all wrong.

In 2002, the political scientist Ruy Teixeira and the journalist John B. Judis published a book that struck a chord among liberals despondent over the success of George W. Bush, a president who was then so popular that he gained seats in that year’s midterm election.

“The Emerging Democratic Majority” took note of the demographic change pulsing through the country, and boldly predicted that the Democratic Party was poised to dominate American politics for the foreseeable future.

“Over the next decade, this bloc of voters is expected to continue to increase and, extrapolating from recent trends, could make up nearly a quarter of the electorate,” Teixeira and Judis wrote. “If these voters remain solidly Democratic, they will constitute a formidable advantage for any Democratic candidate. Democrats could suffer from an embarrassment of political riches.”

    That was then...now?

Teixeira is unsparing about the party strategists who he believes are leading Democrats astray — and unapologetic about offending many on his own side. His newsletter has become a kind of samizdat for like-minded liberals who aren’t as willing to speak their minds.

I'm quite enjoying the monster that Teixeira helped create coming back to bite him in the ass.

Could Immigration Hand the 2024 Election to Trump?

And lurking in the weeds is voters’ second most important issue: immigration and the border. The Democrats are in such terrible shape on this issue that it could tip the balance decisively in Trump’s favor.

Start with this: Biden’s approval rating on “handling the immigration situation at the U.S.-Mexico border” is now 18 percent. Eighteen percent! That’s really, really bad and the lowest presidential approval on the issue ABC News has measured since 2004.

In the latest Wall Street Journal poll, Trump is preferred over Biden by 30 points, his greatest lead on any issue. In the latest Fox News poll, voters favor a wide variety of measures to crack down on illegal immigration: increasing border agents (79 percent); deporting illegal immigrants (67 percent); penalizing hiring illegal immigrants (64 percent); using the US military at the border (58 percent); and even building a border wall (54 percent).

When was the border policy of democrats different? Can you document that? I don't think democrats/liberals in general favor an open border, nor do we have one. But they've always been more open to more immigration than conservatives would like. The usual reason for this is just liking diversity and giving people who are down a chance. I do recall about 25-30 years ago libertarians were okay with an open border. The author doesn't have much impact on regular democrats, but maybe leaders were listening.

Huh, well I'm old enough to remember when Democratic leaders had no problem criticizing illegal immigration.
