    1. I believe the democratic opposition could have durably stabilized Syria, and had that been done ISIS would never have threatened Baghdad.

frankly, and with all due respect, that is clueless. a well-armed regime like Assad's was never going to be brought down (supposedly) arming the suits and turn-coats you have in mind...those folks wouldn't even be the ones doing the fighting and, in any case, would be swept aside more swiftly than the Afghan government in Kabul.
that is the power of propaganda and indoctrination: makes people blind to good v evil even in a movie, where good v evil is intentionally made clear.

Yup, Plessy v. Ferguson being the most notorious/infamous example....

True, and surely they would have learned from the travails of the English Levellers (I'm talking about John Lilburne, Richard Overton, William Walwyn & Co. here, not Gerard Winstanley and the Diggers/True Levellers) that a government masquerading as a republic was still capable of trampling on the Law and the rights and liberties of the individual and the people, and they witnessed it later themselves with the passage of the Adams Administration's Alien and Sedition Act. I have no doubt that if they could see us today that they would not be surprised in the least to find us fighting the same battles against our government as they fought against their own. They knew the American Revolution and the COTUS/BOR were just a new chapter in the ongoing struggle for individual freedom and sovereignty that never ends. Anyone who thinks that they were an end in themselves and the Founders thought they were an end in themselves hasn't been doing their homework.

I'm not sure there was anything Jefferson liked about the COTUS and its misleading and secretive origins. As I'm sure you are aware, Jefferson, like Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry, was an "Anti-Federalist" who was openly opposed to Hamilton and Madison & Co.'s scheme, and as it turned out, the "Anti-Federalists" were the most prescient of the whole bunch. Looking at what the Federal Leviathan has become, I have to wonder if the "Federalists" would approve of what became of their handiwork.

Sorry, but I have direct personal knowledge of the early 2012 state of play in Syria. The "suits and turncoats" were exactly what the Syrian people hoped for. I saw grown men -- veteran fighting men -- cry when they got word the Obama administration would not provide the little help they needed.
People, even actors portraying people, cannot be separated from the causes they serve. In the end, individual personal qualities are unimportant.

Least someone got a briefing - clearly you didn't and perhaps feel left out - how you missed all the memo's we are not sure but, no worries - help is on the way !

Here is one paper analysing the propaganda clown show at the NYT and Wapo .. shilling for war ..

Abstract: More than a year after the US invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003, both the New York Times and the Washington Post published selfcritical articles regarding their coverage of the run-up to the Iraq War. However, an analysis of this coverage in the five days following the UN speech by then-secretary of state Colin Powell shows both papers’ bias to be more profound than these pieces acknowledge. This article quantitatively analyzes each newspaper’s coverage concerning how much of a platform each paper gives to pro- and antiwar voices, thereby revealing both papers’ reporting to be subject to significant prowar bias. A qualitative analysis of the same coverage exposes the various ways in which this bias comes to the fore. Comparing these analyses to the selfcritical pieces reveals a lack of acknowledgment of both the severity and the nature of this bias. These findings, which show that the New York Times and the Washington Post downplayed their bias, call into question the ability of these papers to provide balanced news reporting on future proposed military ventures.

we just disagree on what the Syrian people hoped for and how important would be their hopes and wishes in who would take power.
and, of course, we also disagree on more...
But thanks for sharing your perspective.

Because he doesn't want objective investigators, but ones of his and Washington's choosing. Does that answer your question.

The failures of US media (and most politicians) in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq are well known and no longer of interest. Your claim is not redeemed by this.

I remember you mentioning that you had been in Liberia during those times which is why I mentioned Taylor. Not that war is ever pretty, but those were some seriously ugly conflicts in West Africa.

Well, who will suffer first from these measures? The creditors- west private companies, finance organizations etc. Very stupid steps from the US administration. If the technical default happens none inside Russia will feel it.

Why would anyone want to take action against Assad when Syria was the most secular and democratic nation in the Middle East? I knew people who moved back to Syria and who were raving about the all inclusive society he created.

The same Sunnis who had gripes about not having enough power in the government are the same ones later on who fought in Assad's army when they realized exactly who and what was destroying their country and for what reason.

As for Hezbollah, they would not have been in Syria if it wasn't for the interference of the US, UK, FR, Israel, Turkey and Jordan. So let's not put the blame on others for what we ourselves brought about.

    I'm an expert I say
    in flipping away
    so I can blame you,

    for whatever I do.

And I know that I'm great
    and really first rate
    and so ably,
    in thus fooling you.

    But little I know
    that it's not really so
    for I'm blinded
    and really can't see.

    that whatever I do
    and what I may construe
will always fall back on me.

Not that you're genuinely interested, but why don't you take a trip to Dara'a and ask the people there yourself?

Such default will make it really difficult for Russia to borrow money in the future, long after Pootin is gone.
Missed payments will hurt creditors immediately, but because of such pain, they’ll be reluctant to buy more Russian bonds ever again for fear of Russian leadership doing something stupid and running into similar sanctions.

You failed as usual. We are here to establish the truth. Your propaganda posts do not serve that purpose.

A chronological order of the events:

“March 31 – the day of the liberation of Bucha. This was announced by Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk. This day will go down in the glorious history of Bucha and the entire Bucha community as a day of liberation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Russian occupiers.”

A smiling Mayor of Bucha celebrating. All of the Russian troops are gone and yet there is no mention of a massacre. The beaming Fedoruk says it is a “glorious day” in the history of Bucha, which would hardly be the case if hundreds of dead civilians littered the streets around Fedoruk.

Furthermore....As pointed out in a piece by Jason Michael McCann on Standpoint Zero, The New York Times was in Bucha on Saturday and did not report a massacre. Instead, the Times said the withdrawal was completed on Saturday, two days after the mayor said it was, and that the Russians left “behind them dead soldiers and burned vehicles, according to witnesses, Ukrainian officials, satellite images and military analysts.” A crucial piece of information:

In Bucha, the Times was close to the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, whose soldiers appear in the newspaper’s photographs. In his piece, McCann suggests that Azov may responsible for the killings:

“Something very interesting then happens on [Saturday] 2 April, hours before a massacre is brought to the attention of the national and international media. The US and EU-funded Gorshenin Institute online [Ukrainian language] site Left Bank announced that:

‘Special forces have begun a clearing operation in the city of Bucha in the Kyiv region, which has been liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The city is being cleared from saboteurs and accomplices of Russian forces.’

The Russian military has by now completely left the city, so this sounds for all the world like reprisals. The state authorities would be going through the city searching for ‘saboteurs’ and ‘accomplices of Russian forces.’ Only the day before [Friday], Ekaterina Ukraintsiva, representing the town council authority, appeared on an information video on the Bucha Live Telegram page wearing military fatigues and seated in front of a Ukrainian flag to announce ‘the cleansing of the city.’ She informed residents that the arrival of the Azov battalion did not mean that liberation was complete (but it was, the Russians had fully withdrawn), and that a ‘complete sweep’ had to be performed.”
