Manchin tears into Biden over failing to stop record inflation: 'The Federal Reserve and the Administration failed to act fast enough'

"When will this end? It is a disservice to the American people to act as if inflation is a new phenomenon," Manchin said in a statement. "The Federal Reserve and the Administration failed to act fast enough, and today's data is a snapshot in time of the consequences being felt across the country."

The Consumer Price Index delivered more sobering news on Tuesday. The closely monitored inflation gauge rose 8.5% year-over-year in March, the largest such increase in four decades.

The report reveals just how much the war in Ukraine has already affected price growth in the US as food and energy costs saw particularly large rises, but Americans were already feeling the pinch before Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Manchin is of course correct and he's not the only top dem to say so.

There are even dems who won't run again because they know that Americans are pissed about rising fuel costs and inflation.

I'm paying over 6 bucks a gallon and every time I fill up, it's the most I've ever spent. There are Biden "I did that" stickers everywhere and this is in California.

This inflation is also impacting medical supplies like IV bags and tubing.

He's right - it was clear last summer where this was heading, but the govt kept trying to rationalize it and gave BS. The war made it worse, but it was already bad

There would have been inflation regardless of who was president, but no doubt in my mind the current admin has made it worse

And the real kicker is the CPI hardly encompasses what and how it was determined in 1981!

Wonder why giving Trillions to the rich caused inflation?

Trump was on the verge of a recession in 2019... BEFORE COVID

the fed doesn't do this during a great economy... that the economy was great pre-covid is one of the biggest lies the Republicans ever told.

I think Manchin is one of the very few sane Democrats in Congress. At least he's concerned about his home state, he actually does what his voters want him to do, not what Biden or Schumer want him to do.

Its funny how the reason for the inflation keeps changing. Even when there's multiple reasons one side or the other blames the other side and ignores what their side contributed to it.

You and your ilk, many from overseas regularly blame Trump for everything.

And now that Biden is sinking the economy, recession becoming more likely, we should stop the blame game and offer solutions Biden will never take?

    Get out of town.

The DNC flip flop :) He is and then he isn't, depends entirely on his line of common sense and or the lack of! The more he touch's on reality and good sense the further he falls from the graces of the party, visa versa he becomes a HERO!

Manchin is a DINO, from my perspective.

Way back when, he would have been called a Blue Dog Democrat.

He's part owner of a coal mine, and he regularly goes to Texas to kiss the ring of Big Oil.

In recent years, he's used to his position to have it both ways. He'll say he's for some reform, and never agree to anything specific. He was always that way, to a degree, but you could cut a deal with them.

Now, I think his ambitions have gotten the better of him,

What do you think his ambitions are? He doesn't seem to have any higher political goals than Senator.

Interesting, where is the information that he's part owner of a coal mine? Never heard that.

    Doesn't matter, it's really irrelevant!

Politicians from both sides of the isle own various stocks and such.. Just DNC spin or lack of real life investments is all ;)
