I don't believe any of these rumors - but I agree, would potentially be great (depending on the replacement)

The only way that Putin is going to be taken out of power is either by assassination or coup...

I once read an article arguing the reason authoritarian countries have elections isn't just to maintain a reason for political legitimacy. It's a way for the military to decide when to stage a coup attempt to prevent popular dissatisfaction from toppling the system as a whole. Perhaps something like this will end up happening in Russia? I doubt the system that produced Putin will change but he himself will be out.

There has to be sane people in Russia who want Putin out just like the plot to assassinate Hitler during WW2. Now Putin has put himself in a dangerous position. I would hate to be in his shoes.

Putin legitimately has over 70% support so it's unlikely that he's on the way out. It's not because people are afraid to say they don't support Putin so he has a higher reported approval than in reality, it's that he really has high support.

Here's how Russian pollsters gauge Putin's popularity.
A group of people in the city would be asked.
Out of Pierogis, Pirates, Putin, Pineapples, Psalms, how many do you like?

Then in the same city you ask another group Out of Pierogis, Pirates, Pineapples, Psalms, how many do you like?

Nobody is going to worry about the authorities knocking on their door because the question is almost asked almost like a joke. But from it you can calculate how many people like Putin.

We'll never know how many Russians "like" Putin. No way a poll can be accurate in Russia.

I just explained how they can get an accurate poll in Russia.

What polls are conducted using that method? I’d be interested in seeing an in depth explanation of that method.

I have a strong feeling that this will end with the removal of Vladimir Putin from power in Russia forever. The question is how long that will take.

Putin was in power because he made a lot of people rich. But now, if the Russian oligarchs have any hope of staying rich, they'll have to shun Putin.

If he is terminally ill perhaps his attack on Ukraine is his dying attempt to regain old Russian territory. May he rot in hell.

I read something yesterday that indicated some people are working on a coup. Maybe they are planning to do something when he hands over power for X number of days for his upcoming surgery.
It seems a bit contrived to me that these people are said to be in the upper crust and are close to him saying that he is very sick. I mean, is it him orchestrating these "leaks" or are they actually jumping ship as you say to save themselves from the fallout of his downfall?

    About sums it up.

I think the real roadblock is who assumes control then..

Putin has six kinds of blood cancer while fighting dementia. It's a race against time to see who checks out first - him or Biden. And then what will the world look like?

Do you know how their hierarchy works? What's the line of succession? I read something the other day about him grooming one of his daughters to take the helm but I don't know if that is just more speculation that surrounds the mystery of his actions this year.

Let's hope so. I'm not sure who would take over though, and I've been around long enough to be careful with the unforeseen consequences of regime change.

In some quarters it's like it's a sure thing that Putin's death would be followed by Navalny or someone similar walking in and taking over. I can't see how that would occur. I can definitely see how dome scumbag to his left with the support of key government figures would take over though.

If there’s a coup and it works, his entire family would be either exiled, put in prison or worse.
