I saw this picture earlier. That's probably his wrecked-out truck in the foreground:

    Yeah, they are.

And I believe that culture and upbringing is the main factor.

However, very few in USA are willing to risk their lives, and the lives of their children, to FORCE people to change, to be better.

We have a long way down to slide before we hit that point.

I fear that there is nothing to be done but to bear it and encourage everyone to monitor their friends and family members for signs of repressed anger and mental illness. It's either legal, constitutionally, medically (for the insane) impossible to do much more than that. There are too many guns in America's closets for law enforcement to confiscate them, even if that were legal, which it isn't, and no, I don't want to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

Another misguided Leftist yammering about the Second Amendment.

FYI, shooting up an elementary school is NOT exercising your Second Amendment rights....

If you look at official lists of school shootings, you see them happening in every era, even before the civil war. But as often as not, it was a parent shooting a teacher, not a teen killing numerous preteens.

Of course, we didn't hear about shootings in other states or remote locations as much or as fast as we do now, because there wasn't cable TV or the internet.

So you are saying that there are no armed security guards or other armed members of staff in any schools in Texas?

Here's another view of the wrecked truck:

IF LEOs were really in pursuit, I'm surprised Salvador was able to get from there into the school without being stopped by the cops.

As soon as you heard he shot his grandmother first you pretty much knew it wasn't a white guy.

You must know that such a law would never pass 2nd Amendment scrutiny.

You do know that not all 18 year olds are eager to go out and kill 2nd, 3rd an 4th graders, right?

It definitely does not look like you do.

I saw the report posted 5 hours ago on another forum and the school was on lockdown at that time. It really begs the question how the shooter had so many targets s of opportunity.

Fair enough. I respect your opinion. To be clear, I am not about to support a full gun ban. I am not stupid enough to believe it will happen.

However, I also believe monitoring others will have very little effect. IMO, people are angry, but not crazy. People are tired of their suffering, wheather real or imagined, not being addressed and fixed.

I am glad I don't have kids of my own, but I have nieces and nephews that will be forced to grow up in this increasingly violent country, and there is nothing I can do to change the country to make it better.

It's not a good emotional place to be, and I am not alone.

I confess that I wonder aloud if we don't need to modify the 2nd Amendment. It's easy enough for some to say "never!" until it's one of their kids or grandkids.

Even if it never happens, the fear is becoming palpable.

It's not family values. It's the culture itself that has changed. There are people out there young enough, some of them with children of their own, that have never known a world without school shootings. And every time they happen, the media is filled with it. It reverberates everywhere. Dozens, hundreds, of people's pain broadcast in real time full motion video for everyone to see. For people who are mad or have a grudge or are just plain crazy, it's like an ever present infomercial for how to make a mark on the world. A horrible mark. Lets not pretend like school shootings didn't exist before the 90s. But in the 90s and ever after, when 24 hour media and the fledgling internet were booming, they were suddenly front and center for weeks, months.

    A blueprint for the disturbed.

Nobody ever killed anybody with "craziness". With a gun they can.

2nd A is not the problem. Partisan right-wingers in SCOTUS is the problem.

I agree. The 2nd Amendment should say that gun free zones are prohibited.

Guns are banned from all Republican conventions.

But these same Republicans would like to have them in elementary schools.

    Hypocrisy.

I would add that as always, you are proving to the moderates in this country how dangerous your political agenda is.
