Folks, I’m not sure how this will work out and I’m just spitballing here, throwing stuff against the wall seeing what will stick. What do you guys think of this compromise that was mentioned elsewhere?

In order to get a gun you need to be a legal American citizen in good standing with no history of mental illness and you must be 21 years of age. If you can pass an extensive background check you will receive a card stating you’re eligible to buy a gun.

    Here’s the compromise:

In order to vote you must present the card mentioned above. That means you’re 21 years old, an American citizen and in good standing.

These are compromises on two essential rights that each side has to bend a little on.

    So let’s hear it.

I would add that you have to have an IQ over 135.

The next time someone tries to argue this is a left-wing forum or about even, I will refer then to your stats.

I am for Government supplied voter ID. IF you want to somehow tie that to BGC's it may be a talking/starting point. I don't see us going back to 21 as the beginning voting age. The "buy a gun" part would have to be subject to a BGC everytime you purchased another firearm, not a lifetime pass.

How's this for a compromise: legalize and deregulate all guns, drugs and abortions.

    Eliminate Federal Control entirely.

Eliminate the Executive Branch. It has become too dangerous to be allowed to exist. If trump can get elected, that mean anyone, no matter how dangerous or unqualified they are can gain control of the world's most powerful military and our nukes. The US has failed.

Drugs and abortions don't kill 19 school children in a few minutes.

The day trump was elected, the system proved to be too dangerous to exist. This put the entire world in jeopardy.

Our government of check and balance is sound. It's the EC that has failed.

    I'll throw one out:
    1. Must be 21 years old to purchase, possess, and bear any firearm. Only exception: when hunting with a valid hunting license and in under the on-site, present supervision of a person who is over 21, a person who is 18 - 21 may participate with, possess, and use (BUT NOT PERSONALLY OWN) a firearm in a venue legal for hunting, subject to local hunting law.

    2. Any person who shall (I use that word very deliberately) make threats that advocate bodily harm against any other citizen of the United States in any verifiable medium, or in the presence of sworn witnesses, is thereafter denied the ability to purchase, possess, or bear firearms anywhere within the United States of America pending a trial in accordance with these offenses. Persons making such threats will be charged with having committed the same crimes that defendants are who make threats against government officials! If found guilty, in addition to sustaining the punishments that are levied for making the threats themselves, those convicted will never (NEVER) be allowed to purchase, possess, or bear firearms in the United States for the balance of their lives.

    3. No person who has ever been convicted of any crime, whether misdemeanor or felony, will ever be allowed to purchase, possess, or bear a firearm in the United States for the balance of their lives. If subsequently convicted of any crime involving a firearm, the punishment shall (there's that word again) be automatic life-imprisonment, without any parole or 'early release'!

Does any of this sound feasible...? My intent? To get 'criminals and crazies' out (OUT) out of our lives forever!

Not by a long shot. That is delusional! The system has utterly failed profoundly in the most important ways possible.

We learned from trump that there are no checks and balances. Most of what we thought were laws, are really just recommendations and courtesies. But for a few people, a few military people of high rank who were willing to stand up to trump, there was nothing left to stop trump. He almost gained control.

We barely made it. If elected again there will be no stopping him.

There is only one solution: Legalize secession and split up the country.

You all wanted trump. Now deal with the consequences.

Are you guys willing to tie the responsibility of gun ownership to the responsibility of voting?

True that. But it's his "alternative fact" following that refuses to accept reality that's the problem, not the Constitution.

That's crazy talk. There is NOTHING wrong with the United States, that can't be fixed by what is right with the United States.

There is no compromise on the left with gun control.

Compromise implies that you will get something in return. The left offers nothing in return except a steady erosion of your rights.

I imagine that you think you have some point but you know I can find someone who exceeds that on the left right?

I'm good with this. I would also throw in mandatory gun safety training before purchasing and passing a written and range test. Also every 3 years we should be required to renew our license to own our firearms along with extensive background checks and mental evaluations.

    Are you still down?

neither does the second amendment. Drugs actually kill more people each year than Semi Auto rifles kill in a decade

so you want a speeding ticket sufficient to strip someone of a constitutional right? Nope

if you are going to give someone life without parole for merely owning a gun after having a speeding ticket-they might as well kill everyone they can since those are all freebies
