Should we keep it and use the money for Ukraine, I think we should go after property and assets and never give them back!

A Russian oligarch's $300 million seized superyacht must sail out of Fiji waters because it's a waste of money for its government to maintain, court rules (yahoo.com)
The FBI has linked the yacht – featuring a lobster tank, swimming pool and helipad – to Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov. Mark Lambert, a deputy assistant secretary of State, expressed gratitude to Fiji for collaborating on the seizure.

I think you ought to read the Constitution. You'd be singing a different tune if the Feds stole your **** without any legal basis.

Which parts of the constitution apply outside of the United States to non-US citizens?

Do you think the 4th amendment limits the US government's authority outside of the US when a non USC is involved?

It absolutely does. If the US government is using its authority to seize property....no matter where located....the 4th Amendment applies.

Just as it does when they seize property in the US, no difference.

Got anything better than that? So, do you know this guy personally? Of course not, you just gobble up whatever the government tells you like a good sheep.

Is there any caselaw that shows it limits the government outside the US when dealing with non US citizens or residents?

The US is party to several international piracy treaties that preclude us and like everyone else on the planet from doing exactly this. Democrats do love them some piracy though....

Just a thought. Are you willing to go to war if the Russians seize say Bill Gates Mega yacht? Wouldn't the Russians now have the same right to behave this way? Or didn't that occur to you?

They are ordering new planes with that capital raise. So much for your sanctions. Don't worry, Ukie land will be over soon.

Russian warships outside of their territorial waters are a fair game for western navies. ;)

The U.S. government has legal authority to seize anything it can take by force abroad as well as eliminate any non-U.S. citizen it deems a threat. You should read up about what a constitution is. ;)

You may be from the shithole of Ukraine, but that doesn't mean this country has license to be a corrupt shithole like Ukraine. Your knowledge of our Constitution....is....non-existent.

Ukraine is "corrupt" ....since it was infiltrated by an utterly corrupt Soviet judiciary....and it still feels those aftereffects til this day....that's changing....hopefully this "apparatchik"way of thinking is eliminated once and for all.....Baltics did it....former Warsaw Pact too.

Mafiosi can hang on to it....it's a land of bandits, thieves, muggers and rapists.

History of sanctions and use of force abroad indicate that the precedent is on my side of the argument.
You really lack the understanding of what a constitution is.

No worries mate .. Russia gonna be getting those assets back .. reminding people that throwing out the rule book and engating in piracy on the high seas is a really bad idea .. as ruled recently in a Greek court over the seizure of Iranian oil /assets.

The USA shown yet again that "Do as we say - Not as we Do" foreign policy is dumb and dumber .. bitch-slapped by Moscow - will cower and snivel.

You give these courts too much credit. Without Iran having taken the Greek tankers in response, there wouldn't have been such a ruling by the Greek court. In fact, the piracy by the Greeks had been given a veneer of "legality" by earlier court rulings in Greece. The same way the Brits had given their piracy at the behest of the US a fig leaf of supposed legality from Gibraltar courts, only for the ruling reversed only after Iran seized a British tanker and a deal quietly reached for the Brits to release the Iranian tanker so the British tanker would be released as well.

The thing about Russia that surprises me is that it allows a lot of this to go without a proportional response. In fact, it seems the idea of a proportional response is foreign to the Russian lexicon They either take things on the chin they shouldn't or they engage in a land invasion or they threaten nuclear war. There are other more reasonable tools in your bag of tricks and you should try some of them. I am sure there are yachts owned by folks the Russians can put a label on and I doubt Fiji is immune from what can spread to it if Russia sneezes at their direction.

No surprise to me that the US government practices piracy. It has been stealing Syrian oil for a number of years. Why not steal boats owned by Russians? It stole lands owned by the Native Americans. What's new? It routinely steals for decades the US Currency carried by people traveling the country.

Washington DC has long been a gangster's paradise.
