More Americans are beginning to hold off on booking flights, getting haircuts, building backyard pools and replacing old, leaky roofs — in some of the new signs that the consumer engine of U.S. economic growth could be losing steam......................

data suggests consumers are also beginning to tap the brakes on dining out, vacation plans and even routine services like manicures, hair cuts and home-cleaning appointments.

this isn't really a surprise and should be fully expected. When you vote Democrat, and then in turn anti-energy policies are enacted by Democrat politicians, you get across-the board price hikes.

When everything costs more, discretionary spending is the first to be cut. All of those "jobs added" we see Democrat politicians talk about which were mostly service industry, will begin to be jobs lost.

It's sad that we continue these cycles. We institute some conservative policies; things improve, and then for some reason we get Democrat leadership and into the tank we go. Rinse/Repeat.

We need a flush of academia so the young folks are taught that Democrat policies harm everyone who isn't tied to DC.

Great idea! Both are discretionary spending and now is the obvious time to tighten belts for a bit...

Xoe said he'd presided over the "greatest economic improvements in history"... even the lefty media laughed. There are some that suggest that spending money while it still has value might make sense... Why is it democrats always attack the value of money and wealth when they gain power?

The young family just starting out and living paycheck to paycheck is paying more than double in fuel costs since Biden took office, paying at least 15% more in groceries and necessities, and about the same in eating at restaurants. The cost of airfare is through the roof.

This begins with all the money given away by the government. And now they are crushing the economy more and more by forgiving student loan debt. Biden and company destroying our nation one day at a time.

these are the Democrat policies for which Democrat voters wanted. Democrat politicians and their financiers are who they have always been. They are not for the regular folk. It's the Democrat voters who are blind to reality that give them the power to hurt all of us.

If you are a boater anywhere other than Cal, MA or DC, you will see a lot of anti-Biden flags. I was fueling our boat when a boat went by with a FJB flag. A couple who were fueling their boat made nasty remarks, and then when they saw the total price to fill up, they bellyached about that. Talk about irony

they voted for the exact thing that they were bellyaching about at the fuel dock.

Took a trip out of state this weekend. Diesel was $6.57 a gallon. And we wonder why the price of everything at the store is going up. Imagine if you're the average farmer. You pay 3x compared to last year for fertilizer, (Joe's little dust up in the Ukraine that he allowed Putin to engage) 3-4x cost of diesel... And we wonder why there will be shortages of basic stuff like corn, wheat, beans, etc...

Biden has simply allowed the radical socialists in his party the opportunity to attack the economy, and the basic economic providers that created actual stability in this country. These folks have said, repeatedly, that the "reset" has to start in order to implement the great reset. And suddenly democrats are surprised at the outcomes. Those of us on the conservative side of the house warned y'all repeatedly. But somehow this loon got 80+ Million votes. The magic of the printing press for sure...

Nothing is going to change until we either vote them out of office or the policies of democrats start impacting them. Butti got a taste of that when his flight was cancelled, now all of a sudden he’s concerned about cancelled flights.

I would never suggest putting off fixing a leaky roof no matter what economic conditions exist.

What we really need is another whinefest thread by the sore losers that are called Republicans. Oh, the Dems have ruined everything, even the air I breathe and the Sun that shines, alas, woe is me. Today we live under the actions of a president who shut down the US in 2020. The capitalist have failed but alas, alack let us blame a president.

Let's not forget that hotels, airlines and airbnb costs have skyrocketed. They are making up for lost revenue. So not all 'Biden bad' as the cause of hotels and restaurants seeing less traffic.

Hmm.. I thought it was because everything that goes into providing those services cost more... why do democrats always see greed in others? Is it because they see it in themselves?

    let them eat cake

there are folks who earn a living from businesses such as hair salons, car washes, restaurants. How can one be so callous and blindly defend the harmful Democrat policies when those policies hurt people?

Will Biden and the Dems Inflation Derail The Railroads?

Could the Railroad Industry Go Completely Off the Track?

    But, J6! J6! J6! J6! J6!

"So, do you think fuel and food are expensive right now? Are you having trouble finding things you and your family like or need? At least one railroad employee tells me you can expect to have difficulty finding acetaminophen, also known as Tylenol, in addition to baby formula, sriracha, tampons, and Jif."

    But, J6! J6! J6! J6! J6!

"Nearly every product you buy or use was once in a rail container in its journey to reach you. Many manufacturers take raw materials and supplies directly off trains. If they do not receive the needed inputs, the manufacturing process stops. A combination of bad management practices and labor issues puts the entire system at risk, according to frontline employees."

    But, J6! J6! J6! J6! J6!

According to the Association of American Railroads (AAR), the trade group representing the Class I railroads, 12 labor unions, and 30 freight railroads are in the midst of a multi-year effort to negotiate and reach a collective bargaining agreement that has lasted several years. This multiemployer agreement will address wages, benefits, health care, workplace safety, and operating rules.

    But, J6! J6! J6! J6! J6! - Cheney!

"The current negotiations are nearing an impasse, according to employees. The National Mediation Board (NMB) convened in January and required the parties to come to Washington, D.C. to meet, which is unusual. On June 17, 2022, the NMB released the parties from statutorily mandated mediation. The National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC) and the 12 unions remain without a contract for the members to vote on. The required 30-day cooling-off period started on June 18, 2022. At the end of the cooling-off period, the union members will vote to authorize their bargaining committee to call a strike."

    But, J6! J6! J6! J6! J6! - Cheney!

"the proposed wage increase will not approach members’ cost of living increase, and healthcare will get more expensive. In an environment with 8.6% inflation and a 3.4% decline in the value of a dollar, management offered a 2.5% raise and a high-deductible healthcare plan. Rail workers make an enviable hourly wage. However, mandatory retirement contributions, union dues, and personal liability coverage that pays an employee during the investigation of any incident that causes an injury or the destruction of property significantly reduce an employee’s take-home pay."

If the Railroads strike, they will have to update Biden's cue card. And merely pulling back on travel and restaurants will be the "good old days."

I live in an area that attracts tourist and I own a vacation rental business. From my own experience, business has not slowed down and there are just as many tourists here as any other year. I realize that doesn't reflect all places, just sharing what I'm seeing. I'm in north Arkansas in the Ozarks near the Buffalo river.
