That is not true, previously, if you could show proof of why you had to carry a concealed weapon in public, you were allowed, not asking a lot, and as she said, now the requirements will go beyond just showing proof, there will be additional hurdles to cross

The one requirement which prohibited the vast majority of New Yorkers from obtaining a concealed carry permit was the "special need" bullshit. That particular flavor of bullshit is no longer available to New York. They're being forced into the 21st century in terms of concealed-carry issuance. They may add layers of bureaucracy, but whatever they add, a CC permits will still be much more obtainable for the average New Yorker, because they're now obligated to be shall-issue. Your side lost. Trying to spin this as a win for the anti-RKBA orcs is just plain silly.

 

They don't have one of the lowest gun violence rates in the country, period. They're middling, at best. New Yorkers murder each other with guns at twice the rate that Utahns do.

 

It's about time Hochul showed an interest guns. There have been hundreds of murders in New York this year alone perpetrated by people with illegal guns. She hasn't lifted a finger to stem the illegal gun violence. She could fire the soft on crime prosecutors, or better yet, enforce Terry stops to snatch handguns from violent felons who carry on the streets looking for targets, but she won't do either. She's not interested the illegal guns, which are causing blood baths, she wants to take guns away from law abiding citizens who keep the peace. Gun owners who apply for carry licenses aren't a threat to anyone.

The threats, in addition to the street thugs, are people like Chuck Schumer, who explicitly threatened Justices Gorsuch and Kavanugh. Standing on the steps of the Supreme Court House, he warned that they would "reap the whirlwind" if they didn't vote the right way on Roe v. Wade. Abortion, unlike gun ownership, is not an explicit right. The Democrats blew this one by allowing the case go up to the high court. They should have thrown in the towel. Now the Democrats have a big problem as gun rights have expanded nationwide. It's as if Joe Biden fell off his bike all over again.

"Gun deaths" and "gun violence" are not the same thing. The former includes suicides, the latter does not. Take suicides out of the equation, and New York shoots up the rankings, which is why your claims of "safety" are false.

New York is not a particularly safe state, even from gun violence, as Buffalo highlighted recently.
