    Snip -

The full list of instructions reads:
    • "YOU enter the Roosevelt Room and say hello to participants."
    • "YOU take YOUR seat. "
    • "Press enters."
    • "YOU give brief comments" — this note was partially blocked by Biden's finger.
    • "Press departs."
    • "YOU ask Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO, a question. Note: Liz is joining virtually."
    • "YOU thank participants."
    • "YOU depart."

Very interesting. Looks like he is requiring more and more guidance to make it through the day. How does this man make it to 2024?

How sad we have a President who has to be so propped up by his staff.

    I don't see the problem. There's a protocol here.

I couldn't help think of his predecessor, who would lack the self retraint to be able to follow the instructions. ( Too complex).

Hmmm.... I have made notes similar that all the time before at speaking at a meeting or giving a presentation. In fact I usually have more and a bit more detail. The only one that is a bit strange is "Take you Seat" but everyone has there own style.

Do you guys not do this?

Is Biden the first person in existence to be given an agenda before a meeting? Weird, we do this all of the time at my work . . . and everywhere I've ever worked.

I think the difference being one person conducting himself independently and the other being a puppet with very little ability to conduct his own independent actions. I don't like Trump and most don't, but at least he didn't bend or be propped up like some puppet.

But honestly, we don't know that's what's happening. Biden has stuff organised for him, of course he does. And I imagine all the Presidents had other people putting things on their itinerary for months ahead.

I've been in plenty of meetings with a fixed agenda. And also meetings/events where you're given very specific instructions. I think he was just careless flashing the card around.

What Biden had in his hand was not an agenda.

What the OP listed was an agenda.

One thing that struck me during the election of President Biden was the great value some folks place on candidates "appearing presidential". I could not, at the time, help but think: Wow, these people would rather just have a starched suit, bright smile, and empty head reading prepared teleprompters to the media than someone with rough edges who thinks for themself and goes off-script. Even when President Trump got his rare accolades for "appearing presidential" it was when he just read the teleprompter, and kept his opinions to himself.

Those cue cards are part of that kabuki theatre. It seems to me that we may be placing value upon the wrong attributes, if we are ever to regain sane governance. We need to start looking at the puppeteers and not the puppets.

Disagree. An agenda is a list of specific items to be discussed in a meeting. Biden was given instructions on how to behave.

I really don't see an issue with this, someone has to keep him in line or he may wander off.

If my assistant handed me a card like that to prepare me for entering a meeting, I'd think she had gone insane.

It is the definition of "kabuki theatre".

If your assistant gave you a card like that it would mean she has no confidence that you could do any of the things on the card without it.

A career politician who has over 40 years of public office conducting himself in public instances the entirety of his career still needs to be told how to behave and how to act and think?

Looks like bullet points for a speech. You really want to compare it to instructions how to move or who to talk to, hahahahaha :)

I know I don't need a cue card to tell me to enter a room, say hello to people and to sit down.

Anyone who does likely is in the mid-stages of Alzheimer's.

The 4th and 6th things on that list - "YOU give brief comments" and "YOU ask Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO, a question. Note: Liz is joining virtually." COULD be considered an agenda IF they listed in some form what he was going to discuss. But a note that tells Biden to enter a room - nah. And thing is, if you need a note to tell you to sit down and leave a room, you need a note to remind you of what those brief comments are going to be about.
