Nancy Pelosi received communion from the pope this morning.

Just wanted to make sure all you folks who were so thrilled when some church flunky/political hack tried to deny it to her based on political beliefs saw this.

It's unclear whether the Pope specifically knew or realized that there had been a reason why Pelosi had been denied communion.

It would sort of be like if you were awarding medals of honor to several people, and then afterwards you realized one of them had been some obscure Nazi that had committed war crimes.

This may not necessarily be symbolic of the Pope wanting to override the decision of the Archbishop to deny her communion.

When handing out communion, they usually do not screen the crowds to see if everyone is "eligible" or check to see if anyone might be on the "prohibited" list.

The media has a history of trying to misrepresent what the Pope says and does.

Do you really think the pope, one of the most important figures in the world, is so stupid as to not know why one of the most powerful women in the US, did not receive communion?

Christians have been misguided by their leaders since 325 AD. The (formerly) lost gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene are required for a better understanding of Jesus’ teachings, but those of course were chopped out of biblical canon because they taught that heaven and god was within you, and didn’t require all of these churches and priests and nonsense. Can’t have all the peasants thinking they can control their own destinies!

Media misrepresentation?

 

You have to realize he comes from Brazil and lives within Italy, and does not really speak English. It's unrealistic to expect him to be able to keep track of all this.

Now a better question is if one of his aides or officials realized this but kept silent.

Right...but Catholics believe differently. And the point I suppose is do you change beliefs to fit current society and norms. Or...do you continue to obey God.

 

Communion requires the admitting and repentance of sins. Unless she starts admitting she is wrong, she should be denied communion.

My point was it's very plausible that he might not have known or realized that Pelosi had previously been denied Communion.
The Pope probably was not very involved in deciding who the invitations would be sent to.

Probably the majority of Americans could not even tell you who their Speaker of the House is.
