It isn't a mystery why Putin invaded Ukraine, he thought it was there for the taking and he could settle it in a week of Blitzkrieg. He miscalculated.

 

Miscalculation is a part of war .. no one gets every prediction right. That said .. the over-all calculation is going fairly well for Vlad. Soon he will have the land along the black sea secure .. cutting Ukraine off .. taking over the region from the Donbass to Odesa --- mission acomplished. He will then sue for peace .. and that will be that.

Sure there will be some bitching from the west .. as was the case for Crimea .. but then back to business as usual -- the colors on the board slightly altered .. a small price to pay for Vlad .. Peace restored a small price to pay for the West .. Ukraine the big loser.. which the West will have to pay to rebuild - but no big deal in grand scheme of things.

Ukraine War: One million person Ukrainian force is feasible

Defence and Security Analyst Professor Michael Clarke says that Ukraine could "probably" arm and mobilise a force of one million people in the long-term.​

He also says that unless the Russians do something "pretty drastic," the pendulum will swing back in favor of Ukraine's forces around autumn. The liberation of the south is imminent.

Is there any way we could take advantage of this? Conventionally, Russia looks to be the sick man of Europe in a military sense right now. The problem is she has this literally huge nuclear arsenal.
