Hot and black. Go black or go back!

I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I roast my own and have tried stuff from all over. I've noticed that over the past year or so, the quality of the beans has nose-dived.

I like something fruity or floral. Some Ethiopians can have a blueberry flavor that's really good, but depending on the weather and the farm they come from, can at times be way too much. Most of the commercial stuff in stores gets blended to stretch out the crop, and flavors get muted to almost nothing.

Sumatrans have a very distinct earthy flavor that can be similar to pipe or chewing tobacco. They can also have a fruitiness kind of like dark cherries. Most people don't like the Sumatrans. It's an acquired taste. Biggest issue with those Indonesian coffees is that the sellers are known for dumping old and moldy stuff in with the good.

Probably my favorite is called Gesha. It's been grown in Panama and other Central American countries recently (originally from Ethiopia). It can have an incredible floral aroma and a smooth, fruity sweet taste. But it has several problems. The bugs like it as much as humans do. They can devastate a harvest. Another problem is the cost. I was buying some a few years back and the cost was a bit high. Since then, the word got out and price/lb went totally insane. One season I paid $12/lb, then nest season I couldn't afford it. Some went as high as $1000/lb.

Yes, a Pack of Panama Geisha Coffee Beans Really Did Sell for $1,029 (haymancoffee.com)

And yes, it really is that good, but wow.

Black and cold. Black so it's a healthy habit. Cold because I run hot and don't like burning myself. I'm not too picky on the type as long as it's not decaf

I tried cold before. It loses much of the flavor.

There was a thread on this very topic, I did a quick search but could not locate it. So, hot, black and a teaspoon + 1/2 of ghee for breakfast.

I prefer mine to be about 1/5 half and half. Sometimes with honey, but these days usually not. Occassionally I feel like just having black coffee.

Also, I've found the following inexplicably satisfying: freeze coffee in an ice cube tray, put a few cubes into a tall glass of whole milk. Summer coffee, i guess.

Hot, cold, with milk or without, with Splenda or without. I prefer French Roast, Espresso or Italian Roast, but I'll drink anything in a pinch. The most important thing is to maintain continuous flow. An empty coffee cup takes priority over pretty much anything else.

I've had a coffee cup in my hand since I was about age 10. Early one morning as the sun was rising dead ahead, while we were making our way to South Dakota in our station wagon, the smell of my parents coffee was enticing. They said I could try some and that was it. I was a coffee drinker.

Hot, black and sweet with real sugar. Occasionally I like Latte.

I hate the coffee from Starbucks and like places. I want my Folger's, Maxwell House or Generic Brand.

I'm 69 and have never had a cup of coffee. I'm actually jealous of the connoisseurs. You seem to enjoy your coffee very much. How I don't know, but, different strikes for different folks.

Not at all. Love to smell it. Hate to drink it. I can tolerate some hot tea but that is the closest I can get.
