This black Republican pastor was a big fan of DeSantis in when he first became FL Governor, but not so much anymore now that DeSantis has shown his true colors. What he says below "state has regressed under the Republican governor whose policies appear more geared towards capturing a national audience" is very true given the fact that everything DeSantis talks about is the culture wars which the populist Republicans are waging / embracing in US. In the meanwhile the housing and insurance crises is totally ignored.

‘History is repeating itself.’ Are DeSantis policies stoking racial divisions?

“When I talk about success, it means that we have to have a sense of unity,” Holmes said. In October 2021, he left the Republican Party and became an independent, a move he says was motivated by the “Trumpism” that had become the GOP’s mantra. “I think it’s divisive politics, I think it’s wrong politics. It’s the politics that don’t unite us.” As DeSantis campaigns for reelection, Holmes and some other Black Floridians say their home state has regressed under the Republican governor whose policies appear more geared towards capturing a national audience. They point to laws signed by DeSantis — from the “Stop Woke Act” to the anti-riot bill — and his unprecedented control over the redrawing of Florida’s congressional maps as evidence that he’s more concerned about White House aspirations than issues affecting Black communities.

“It’s the conservative strategy of maximizing the white vote by finding things that white voters feel aggrieved about and then attacking those things, either real or imagined,”

I think its clear that DeSantis has been running for the POTUS nomination for at least two years now. And Floridians have every right to be frustrated that their Governor isn't delivering for his state. Of course many - who side with his politics - believe that he has been successful for Floridians. But there is another large contingent who are wholly dissatisfied.

lol it's always hilarious when Democrats run around accusing others of 'racism n stuff' when their whole Party scam is promoting racism and violence, and has been for going on 4 decades. They're only succeeded in making the term utterly meaningless.

Are you saying Miami Herald just made up the interview.....that it never happened?

Welcome to the world of conspiracies......LOL.

I don't think you understood the article.

    1. Democrats aren't saying anything, the pastor is, and he was a Republican and now independent
    2. No one accuses him of being racist racist.

No, not all Governors use Governors office solely as a springboard to the White House. Most of them take the job seriously.

Do you mean like this? "All or nothing" thinking is a cognitive distortion. I'm not diagnosing you with that but simply wanted to make you aware, in case you didn't know.

I guess if you are lucky DeSantis will be elected President and you Floridians can elect yourself a serious governor.

Apparently it goes way back, so its not new, and it has been successful in the past.

It boils down to this statement: “It’s the conservative strategy of maximizing the white vote by finding things that white voters feel aggrieved about and then attacking those things, either real or imagined,”

Majority of Americans are white, so they target them for votes, but if you target ONLY them, then it tends to make racial tensions worse (be that the goal or not).

Sorry, but it is against the rules here for me to discuss anything with Democrats and commies. You'll have to go posture and blabber at somebody else.

    Heh-heh-heh-heh LOL-LOL-LOL

Its has nothing to do with Democrats, and its not about racism (the speaker talks about racial division). Project some? The speaker is a pastor who was Republican and now he is Independent and he is talking about his concerns. Sorry if it offends you, but shrieking "democrats" isnt helping your argument

If the rule is for you, then its you who needs to take a hike.

Its an old and trusted strategy, and it might work again. I think this also explains their fear of growing minority population in US. Its a fear of not being able to gather enough votes from whites.

    No apologies necessary.

If you ever can break away from the orange blinders, maybe you can revisit this thread and receive/perceive just how dangerous he is.

I completely disagree with the OP. Banning hate filled racist ideologies like CRT is what should be done. Gender theory should also be banned from public schools. Sadly, DeSantis has not gone far enough.

These people are getting what they voted for — as long as he stays in FL I don’t care.

They deserve every ounce of pain until they vote against it.

Patience. He is just getting stated, so the list of "forbidden topics" will keep growing. Teacher are already walking on egg-shells to avoid accidentally putting themselves out of their jobs and/or in personal bankruptcy. Free speech is a distant memory.

Ironically the other option (who almost won) turned out to be a crack smoking party boy.

Read the article as opposed to asking others about what it says.

Why don't you just answer the question because I clearly read that in the article.

The article is nothing more than unsubstantiated opinions
