Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey recently expressed his worry that “socialists” are seizing major institutions within American society while noting that certain liberties are “under threat.”

“My concern is that I feel like socialists are taking over,” Mackey told Reason Magazine in a podcast interview on Wednesday. “They’re marching through the institutions. They’re…taking over education. It looks like they’ve taken over a lot of the corporations. It looks like they’ve taken over the military. And it’s just continuing.”

The libertarian businessman explained that “capitalism” and “liberty” are his primary values but noted they are something not to be taken for granted.

“And I feel like, you know, with the way freedom of speech is today, the movement on gun control, a lot of the liberties that I’ve taken for granted most of my life, I think, are under threat,” he said...

…Mackey is one of the more outspoken corporate executives to criticize certain aspects of left-wing thought, particularly socialism, at a time when more corporations appear to be embracing “woke” culture…

    He’s
right that woke culture is a huge threat to our society and its well being. Socialism too is a big threat to our economic well being as well as economic freedom. Capitalism, individual rights, and liberty are principles well worth defending and are under threat from the secular progressive urban technocrat elites. Freedom, liberty,

This is a good man. He’s stood up against the woke and socialism before and he’s doing it now when needed the most. Well said and right on.

He’s not worried. He’s retiring on September 1st. The nearest Whole Foods to me is 150 miles away in Roseville, Ca.I do have access to a Sprouts and a Trader Joe’s as well as a locally owned Orchard Nutrition store that have most of what Whole Foods has.

Socialists love their leaders until they realized their leaders have necessity in life but not them.

It is true that the bulk of Whole Foods customers are on the political left. More so than Trader Joe’s or Sprouts customers.

100% — I avoid Walmart like the plague so I don’t have to interact with local trumpublicans.

If it costs double and I get much more high quality goods — money well spent.

Didn’t you quote this same guy in 2020 — I guess they do live to regurgitate the same Bs over and over again. Glad he is leaving the organization.

Bit some of it it no better than any other brands out there but you’re tricked into thinking it’s “better” and paying double, because Whole Foods sells it. That's the game.

Some of it absolutely is overpriced. I am ok paying for less crowds and more enjoyable experience. I go to WF and Publix when I have to go in and Kroger when I am doing curbside pickup.

Socialist isn't the proper term... by definition, they are most closely related to fascists.

The Establishment (that controls the left, and hence controls the institutions) has done such an effective job of confusing and conflating terms, and indoctrinating Americans to believe fascism is a right wing ideology, that they operate as fascists, but are labeled as anything but.

In the end, they are authoritarians.

As for what institutions they've taken over?? That's easy, all of them.

Antonio Gramsci wrote extensively about taking over the institutions as a necessary step to taking control of a nation. Gramsci of course was a communist, but communism and fascism are the same thing in the end - they are both authoritarian.

In America, they completely control Washington DC - all of it. The FBI, DOJ, State Dept, NSA, IRS, CIA, Dept of Defense, etc.

All of it. They all wear the party label of Democrat, but they are all loyal to the state. They view themselves as above the law, and they view the law as something to be used to control the people.

I shop a Walmart often but have been going to Dollar Tree and 99 c store more. Big Lots and Ross are good for me as well. Where I live, even if you go to Macy’s, Kohl’s, Safeway, Sprouts, Costco, and Starbucks you will run into local Trump supporters. Though in the latter Dutch Brothers is more popular here. As to Trump supporters, nowhere in California will you find more of us than right here in Redding though in the less populated surrounding counties the proportions of Trump supporters is higher.

Q is a left wing creation, a label they use to tar ordinary conservatives like myself who have no idea who or what they are.

How does it feel to have your vote invalidated on the national level when you vote for President?

Make sure you don’t put the Q between the G and the P — that is apparently a no no against the feelings over fact brigade.

I think trumpism is their religion, Q is just something that agrees with them so they agree with it.

It something I’m willing to live with. I do support the Nebraska and Maine model being adopted nationwide with no more winner take all whole states. The winner of the popular vote in each congressional district in a state gets the EV of that district while the winner of the popular vote within a state gets the EV’s representing its two senators. The electoral college is here to stay. There will never be 3/4 of the states willing to repeal it. The Nebraska and Maine model is the only possible alternative to the status quo. But it has to be nationwide or it won’t happen because neither side will want one of its states divided in such a manner while a large state on the other side is undivided the other way. My vote would matter then and so would a liberals vote in an urban area of a red state.

Ah so more gerrymandering is your answer
    That’s fascinating

You are incorrect though. The NPVIC is over 3/4’s of the way to their goal.
