About 5 days ago the water around that swamp buggy jeep was a foot and a half deep. If this storm dumps a lot of rain along the length of the river which runs about 90 miles north of here..... They will probably see water up to as high as about the headrest of the driver's seat of that jeep.

When it gets that deep the only thing that will do is a boat. But flooding is nothing unusual or new here. It is a river floodplain after all.

The good news is most houses down in here are built up high enough that they won't flood and you generally have at least some warning to get things out like vehicles and stuff that you don't want to flood.

I live about a mile away but I'm over 25 ft above sea level so I don't have anything to worry about as far as flooding but many of my friends live down in here.

We may get some rain from the hurricane. Still got about 800 thrift cuttings to set out and it looks like I'll need about 4500 more next year. Probably got enough plants now for a hundred thousand cuttings. Time to get to work.

Hydrangeas seem to do well under lights. Creeping phlox does not.

Getting my van loaded up with all my valuable goods in the world. All the stuff you wouldn't want to come home to find no home to. Plus I will have my motorcycle inside.

I don't work again until Wednesday night at 10:00 p.m. but we're supposed to be getting tropical storm force winds and rain maybe as early as 8:00 p.m. tonight.

If it gets too bad I'm going to load the dog in the squirrel up in the van and go to work. I can shelter there even when I'm not on shift.

It's an old building and it survived hurricane Charley just fine in 2004 which really tore this town up.

I liked what they were saying two to three days ago when it was going more to the west and going to go up the gulf and hit the panhandle but now they're saying it's going to possibly hit Sarasota county and I'm only about 60 or 70 miles east of there..... In basically a straight line.

They're saying the western edge of my county could see some of the eye wall which is not really that great of news for me because that means I'll be directly to the east of the eye wall Wich is the quote unquote "dirty" side of the storm. Much better to be west of the eye wall

So buckle up for the ride but The show must go on!

Just hoping my mobile home will be here after the storm. It went through hurricane Irma just fine in 2017 which was pretty significant around here

It's been raining like crazy for two days. Our pool is overflowing, but my peace lily is super happy. We are doing the basic things, like we filled the car and threw some bottled water in the freezer, but it does seem like it's just going to be a rain event here.

Things change quickly. My husband is a huge hurricane nerd, so I have the details as they happen. It has shifted slightly NE, so it could come here after all. It's a moving target.

We will be fine. Our entire house is a fortress, and the likelihood we will flood is very low.

    Thanks for asking!

If I remember correctly you're on the lower Southeast corner of Florida, like the fort Lauderdale area right?

Y'all will be good over there. Somewhere between Lee county to the South and Hillsborough county to the north on the Gulf Coast of Florida is going to be ground zero, according to what I heard on my local radio station about 30 minutes ago. And I'm about right in the middle , but inland about 60 miles from the Gulf Coast... But as far as a hurricane goes 60 miles isn't much.

I got all my preparations done and all my important things are in the van and ready to bug out to work which is only a few miles down the road from here .

Hopefully everyone stays safe and we'll see what happens here in about 48 hours or so.

.. . A hurricane is like being stalked by a turtle. A really big, mean ass turtle. You can run but you better not stop because every minute you're stopped it's like the tortoise and the hair.

That turtle is going to get your ass.... Just give it a few minutes to catch up. Lol.

I drove into town once today and my minivan and people everywhere acting like they forgot how to drive. It's like they don't know what the hell a stop sign is and a turn signal is just a distant memory.

wind and clouds are sporadic and I just saw the strongest gust yet.... Maybe a 45 mile an hour gust with higher peak levels.

My brother lives in Tampa 100 miles away and just tried to talk me into going but I can't......

My van has all the things of my life that are anything to me such as the birth certificate IDs and everything.

My job is depending on me to be there tomorrow at 10:00 p.m.

It may very well turn out to be horrific here but I think I will make it. The last I saw it's basically heading right at us just like Charlie.... Up the Peace River valley it goes...

If an extremely unfortunate turn of events should take place and fat back has never heard from again remember that you knew who I was for a Time...

I don't mean to be melodramatic but this is a serious thing. Now I'm going to get about 4 hours of sleep while I can.... As soon as I wake up it's off to work even though I don't work until 10:00 p.m.

By the time the sun cracks The horizon this thing will be a different animal

I suppose there is a distinct possibility I could perish in the storm....... Should such an event come to pass..........

No one thing.... I will have went to meet my maker stubbornly and with my boots upon my feet.

When I say that we never close...... I meant that rather literally.

Looks like it will come directly up Charlotte harbor into Charlotte county and travel in a Northeast direction passing through DeSoto county until it hits Orlando.

I am between the Gulf of Mexico and Orlando directly in the path. What shall be shall be... So be it.

If you are remotely inclined to pray or have positive thoughts I could use some sent in my direction at this point. Many thanks I shall give you in advance...

Southwest Florida signing off.... I desperately have to get some sleep...... Oh what dreams shall I have... ?

Naples is a hot mess. Oy this is bad. My husband predicts the most dollar damage in history, simply because of all the money that lives over there.

Yes, we are in Ft Lauderdale. Our umbrella fell over, despite having more than 50 pounds of weight holding it down. The pool is a mess. Lots of fronds on the ground. Not too bad, all in all.

    you okay?
