Mussolini founded the FIRST and ORIGINAL Fascist organization in 1919. It used the term 'Fasci' in the name and had the fasces (axe in a bundle of sticks) as its symbol. The Nazi party didn't even exist at this point. Mussolini's party quite literally defined what Fascism was. Oops!

I was going to put down a bunch more facts, but that is probably enough for one day.

What does history tell us? Those nations that become totalitarian were nations victimized by oppression and totalitarian leaders always occur because of opportunity, which sometimes occurred because of US backing. the Russian Revolution mainly came from centuries of oppression towards the lower classes by the Tsarist regime which ultimately led to the Bolshevik revolution. Brazil became a dictatorship because of a coup d'etat by the military backed by the US. Same goes for the Shah of Iran, a secular monarchy backed by the US, which led to Khomeini's revolution in 1979. ISIS was spawned by AMerica getting rid of Hussein's secular fascist dictatorship, who served as a check on Iran and Islamic extremism.. Iran's influence in the region grew when we took out Hussein, as did ISIS. Prewar Weimar Republican led to Nazi Germany because of the massive resentment over the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Lots of reasons having NOTHING to do with 'leftism'. Opportunity, is the common thread.

Now then,

No democrat or liberal I know of is recommending an oppressive society inclined to fall into socialism.

None of the western nations with universal health care, prepaid vacations, time off for pregnant women who give birth, nations with left leaning policies that are the admiration of most left leaning persons I now, none of them ever become totalitarian.
