What are your favorite computer games, and Video Games?

I have a regular, super, and Nintendo 64.

I use to play a Basketball game a lot on my computer. That way in high school though.
Also, spent a lot of time, playing Red Alert. Red Alert 2, and Yuri's Revenge back then also.

Duck Hunt with the toy gun, on regular. Plus, Super Mario brothers 1 and 3. Contra, Super C, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and many more.

I used to dump most of my quarters into Donkey Kong but then Robotron came out and that started taking my money. I also had most of the top scores on Track and Field at the local arcade. I recently purchased a Golden Tee arcade game and a 412 game arcade machine of which I play maybe a dozen games. Ms Pacman is a favorite of my poker crew and I have rediscovered 1942 and Dig Dug.

dig dug is awesome. I also liked that 80's game where the snake ate things, and kept getting longer, and a person had to avoid running into it's own body.

I played tons of Donkey Kong on Super Nintendo!!! I also have Ms. Pacman on super nintendo, but prefer regular pacman.

Of course, I guess I like Ms. Pacman better. After all..................she does swallow. lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, there have been so many over the decades.

For computer games, that would have started with Colossal Cave. Then probably Bard's Tale, Civilization, Sim City, most of the Sierra games, then Fable, Fallout and Guild Wars. And to give an idea, my top game currently is Fallout 76 at over 4,800 hours. Second is Fallout 4 with over 3,500 hours.

Arcade, I have not done more than step into one for probably 20 years. I look around sometimes, but always leave without playing anything.

LoL Track and Field is probably why so many people have carpel tunnel now. I still remember seeing a ton of people with their wrists taped up playing that.

I wish I still had the quarters I put into Defender, Joust, Gauntlet, Kung Fu Master, Galaxian, and Contra.

When I finally collected enough aluminum cans and cut enough grass to buy my C64 I was a big Microprose guy. Loved the simulation titles.

Probably my fav games from that era were Wasteland, the Microprose titles, and Dungeon Master.

Wasteland is really "Fallout 0" to those of us that played it. I even joke that the newer games needs a "Toaster Repair" perk.

And I have played a lot of Microprose, mostly the Sid Meyers ones. Civ, Pirates, Covert Action, Colonization, and the like. Even by then, I was moving away from war and military games, and moving toward simulations and RPGs.

I really enjoy RPGs and have a TON of hours in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games (though not as much in the online versions of either) but I'm starting to get frustrated that it has been taking Bethesda so damned long between games. Granted, I don't want a new one out every year that's just a rehash of the last one but Skyrim came out over a decade ago and FO4 was 7 or 8 years ago. That's a long freaking wait for what may or may not be all it's cracked up to be.

New World's been a lot of fun but now reaching an impasse. Probably go back to VR w/ Half-life Axyx & Township Tale.

What are you using for VR? I have the Oculus Quest 2. 64 Gig storage. No wire required.
My favorite 2 games are by the same company: Arizona Sunshine and After the Fall.
    Going way, way, way back?
Arcade: Sea Wolf. $0.10 to launch missiles at passing boats and ships.
80s Arcade: Time Pilot. The $ I went through just to see what happens next (Spoiler: after space battle, you are returned to WW1 and biplanes).
Commodore 64: Fortress of the Witch King, Ultima 3 and 4.
NES: Final Fantasy 1, Faxanadu, Battle for Olympus, Zelda 1 and 2.
    SNES: Zelda 3
    90s to early 2000s:
    PC: Witchaven, Diablo
Nintendo 64: Pokemon Snap (I had kids by then!)
    PS2: FFX
    Xbox: Halo 1 and 2
    Gamecube: Star Wars: Rogue Leader
    Xbox 360: Halo 3, Burnout 2
    Later 2000s early 2010s
PS3: Fallout 3 GOTY, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Captain America, Batman Arkham City
PC: Skyrim with mods. Lots of mods.
    2010s to present:
    PC: Tomb Raider
    PS4: Until Dawn
    Xbox1: Madden 2020
It was around 2013 I joined PS+ and Gold, started buying Humble Bundle, new game from Epic every Thursday, Amazon Gaming, GoG. There is so many games from which to choose I virtually never finish anything! Trying to finish up Rise of the Tomb Raider so I can play Shadow, which I already own, next.

Interesting & thanks for the headsup as I'm finishing up one & looking for more games. Surprised you did not mention Half-LifeAlyx, it's the standard for measuring up all other games.

Also got a quest 2 here but my air link is far too problematic, still trying to figure out if it's a hardware prob or I'm doing something wrong. No prob, the games I want to play are just fine w/ a cable. Don't use an xbox here, am fussing w/ a new CH hotas which is fun w/ some games (Starwars squadrons); it would be GREAT w/ Elite Dangerous but it doesn't want to yet.

    Halflife Alyx is REALLY recommended...

I think I have all of the Halflife PC games, including Portal and Portal 2. I did finish Portal on the 360 and it is a favorite as well. The rest are at least partly on my pile of shame. Alyx is on my radar, thanks for recommending it and making it more a priority!

My current PC build uses a Business Enterprise version that won't work right with the Quest 2. I'm saving up for my next and likely final build in Q1 2024 and will put a consumer version of Windows 11 in the hopes that I don't run into issues as I'd love to play my PC VR games on Quest 2. (Got a ton from Humble Bundle that I cannot use unless and until I build this next box). It will be my final build as I am pretty old and the writing is already on the wall: gaming will look very different in 10 years as to how we play. The Samsung Odysey Ark, for instance, has youtubers already stating you don't need a gaming rig or console. Just use the built in apps such as the Xbox App with Gamepass.

I'd never heard the term CH hotas before! This sorta thing?

    I am intrigued!

HOTAS is a lot easier to write than pronounce because it can either come out as Hoe Tass or as Hot Ass. Just the same, it stands for "hands on throttle and stick" and it refers to a pair of controllers left hand throttle sliding ahead and back and right hand joy stick. To me it's the only way to fly a space ship or air plane on the computer and in VR it's heaven. For years I used a Saitek X55 but it had a flaw where all the internal wires broke after a couple years, so I switched to a Thrustmaster T16000 and it was a third the price and worked great for a couple years until it disintegrated. Then my son-in-law gave me his CH ThrottlePro/Flightstick/petals and it's super/better than anything for games that agree w/ it but a pain for them that don't.

Not needed at all for first person shooters like half life alyx, I played it thru & had do much fun I just played it all the way thru again. Now I bot "Into the Radius" (on sale at steam 1/3 off) which looks like the same plot.

for VR there's just been a HUGE shift in the tech, the front runners right now are the VarjoAero ($1,500) versus the PIMAX for "only" $1,200. they both got super resolution plus a much wider field of vision. My problem is my quest2 still works ok so I'm not forced to buy anything else. That and the fact that there are still a lot of non-vr games that are great (like NewWorld)..

Windows 11 seemed like such a good idea so I paid the $200 for Win11Pro and it never worked right with my NVIDIA 3 monitor setup. So I paid another $100 for Windows 10 Pro and have been happy ever since. Right now Win11 just has too many unfixed bugs, mho.

Alyx appears to not be something sold at the Meta store. We'll see how well the Quest 2 works with Steam on my rig once built. Hopefully Win. 11 gets rid of bugs over the next 14 months.
The Varjo Aero is $2K now and comes with no sound solution!?!? Pimax not sold in the USA? Australia and Japan only? https://pimax.com/product/vision-8k-x/ Also pricey! And the new Meta Pro is really beta at about $1,500 as well. Good to have such hobbies!

At these prices though, had I the space?

Skip to 7:30 if you like:

Just bot "Into the Radius" and am finding I have to reset all my Oculus settings because it keeps crashing but the game's fun so I'll keep trying. Also it's a lot like Alyx which I want. Another purchase I'm planning is The Room VR. To me Steam is a way of life, I just load steam in to my PC, then Steam VR (both free) and when I want to run Alyx it's all there and it's pretty dependable. I had way to many problems trying to download and run Oculus games until I simply bot the same game on steam and it ran great. Wasted money w/ Oculus.

Interesting what u found about PIMAX and Varjo. Suppose it just goes to show how wonderfully procrastinating works.

Just priced the monitors, they seem to run at $1,700!!! My setup is w/ 3 1920x1080 monitors that each goes for less than a hundred. Sure, he had a dream setup but somehow it's really hard to justify spending $5,100 (not to mention the new video card) instead of $300. Not everyone sees it this way tho...
