any group of americans would stop all talk of evolution in the classroom immediately. should this mob of people decide that their religious faith in divine creation has a place in school while darwin is forbidden speech?

 

I'm in favor of both being presented in schools. The question will be how to present both respectfully. I don't see evolution as a threat to creationism or vice versa.

Evolution should be taught in biology class. Creationism has no place there. Evolution doesn't actually address the origin of life - only how it changes. It is a foundation of biology and well-supported. This may be in conflict with a literal interpretation of the bible, but it's true it isn't incompatible with Christianity in general. Christianity just doesn't belong in a biology class.

 

If the argument could be made that evolution was the mechanism of creationism, could they not be both presented as a means of explaining life on earth? Perhaps a good discussion for another thread in a subforum.

Now here's a problem: Parents do not want to take money that is needed for education, but, a sanction of less than $20 is unlikely to change behavior, but, we can hope. It might be better to take the large settlement to make the point and then donate it back to the school if the violative behavior is going to stop. Enabling legislation to make it clear that such awards are not taxable income would be very helpful.

One board member lost re-election. 'Both the previous and present board is made up entirely of Republicans. This odious behavior was not done by Democrats, but by the so-called defenders of conservative values.'
