I'm atheist, yet find this abhorrent that any society would justify this type of action.

Is this something we can look forward to here as thought crime seems to be the new "in" thing?

It is if the deep state gets its way. Fortunately for now the courts will not allow that to happen here.

Was she also trespassing? How can you even tell someone is praying if they aren’t saying anything?

So not only an idiot but also violating the tenants of their religion

    Matthew 6:5-8
“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.”

Good to see the christofascists are like this everywhere and not just in the US. If it violated the buffer designed to prevent harassment then good — throw it in the slammer.

First... just wow with the "throw it in the slammer". Pronoun nazi's should be by shortly.

Second... Silently praying in a public street should not be banned. This is SO 1983 it's ridiculous!

That's referring to the people who are standing there chanting loudly so people know they're praying. Recall the parable those 3 verses are attached to.

If she simply sat there silently, she's not violating any tenant of the bible, nor is she harassing anyone. Nor is she being a facist, do you even KNOW what that word MEANS?

It isn’t banned — as hypocritical as it is — they only ask that specific areas be off limits due to harassment.

But I know you people believe that people with religious psychosis be given special privilege.

What do you not understand about a buffer zone?

That is only her presentation of the situation. There is nothing official from the police, even in the UK media, not least I suspect because they're legally limited on what they could say either way.

If this was just a random person praying silently, why would anyone have raised any concern in the first place? The fact that she is an high-profile anti-abortion campaigner who has been actively arguing against this specific exclusion zone does suggest there could well be more to it that the anti-abortion group's press release makes out. We'll have to wait and see how this pans out.

Oh please, she was protesting, just trying to do it in a milder way to get away with it despite the buffer zone provision. Given it was clear her intent was protest as she had no other reason to stand there (even if she only admitted to silent prayer), she was arrested. Had she said she was waiting there to meet somebody, or just randomly stopped to think, it might have been impossible to prove she was there to protest. She knew she was at an abortion clinic, she admitted to praying, and so her presence there is protest.

If a muslim stands outside of your christian church and silently prays as people are walking around him to go to the church, would that not be protest? He would be there to silently protest against people being infidels, following the wrong religion.

Yes. And worship needs to take place outside of the buffer zones around abortion facilities. Like, mayge in a church, there are plenty of those. She was deliberately putting on a "holier than thou" show. She got what she deserved.

    1. Your source is very biased.

    2. She was within a restricted buffer zone.

Eh. C'mon. We are adults here. If she doesn't work there or isn't making use of the services, then she has no need to be there. Unless this is the first ever instance of someone praying FOR the clinic vs against it. That would be interesting.

I don't think I'd characterize that as a "protest". It's not difficult to imagine a religious person sincerely praying for people who are doing something they understand to be sinful, in the hopes that their prayers might bring a bit of mercy from God to the poor misguided souls. In other words, it might not have anything to do with trying to change anyone's minds or bring about a particular political outcome, but simply be a sincere act of love from a believer towards sinners.

People seem to be ignoring that she has been going there for days. Just because she says that she has been silently praying does not mean that it's true. No doubt she was also part of the protesters who were verbally abusing people before the buffer zone was put in place.

I could care less if she was there 24/7. Praying should not ever be a crime.

Funny that the same people that are lambasting this person for silently praying because of a buffer zone, were the same people that were defending these protest and breaking the law.

You are assuming that she was just praying just because she said so. And why have you posted a photo from the US. I'm English

And your assuming she was verbally abusing people whilst there is video of her just standing there quite. Do you have proof she was verbally abusing people or are you merely speculating?

That wasn't the first day she has been there. She has been going there for days on end and is one of the main spokesperson of the anti-abortion protesters who were protesting there prior to the buffer zone
