German army without ammunition!

    The deal is that Germany as long as NATO exists will not be in the position that
    Ukraine is in. Even as you alluded to without NATO Germany has the EU of which Germany is the actually leader. Geography is on the Germany’s side. Yes someone could point out that Kaliningrad which was stupidly granted to the USSR post WWII is close to Germany but Poland separates Germany from that Russian enclave. Hence Germany does not have a border with Russia. So even if Germany’s army is “ weaker” than Ukraine’s at this point in time Ukraine is fighting Russia alone.

    True that the US is very timely with support as compared with EU countries. The EU countries seem to have more excuses, legitimate and questionable, for being tardy. They also vacillate between yes we will provide ———- to “ oh no our laws, customs, rules, politics, etc say we cannot deliver “what we promised. Good point about our preparedness with military supplies. We learned the hard way when we were slow in keeping up our military between WW1 and WW2. At the time of Pearl Harbor we were using rifle ammunition left over from WW1.

    You are correct there is a double standard.

    But if you chose to have a 50:50 cabinet, you open a can of worms. Gruene and SPD have a female and a male party boss and they naturally demand positions. FDP has 1 party boss, which is male.
    There goes your balance and the hole needs to be plugged. It got even worse since all the positions the FDP got, were filled mainly by males.

    Now Scholz gave the position of Sec of Defense to a male. Instantly SPD and Gruene are pointing out that the cabinet lost its 50:50, the horror.

    Hey the pendulum has swung here in the US to the point where the affirmative action policy is not giving minorities a step up but causing others to be stepped upon.

    Another difference is that German military equipment WORKS and France's... well....
    I must admit that I am amazed how this war in Ukraine has demonstrated the superiority of US equipment so much. Most of NATO gives its Infantry the "NLAW" to shoot at tanks. Its generations behind the deadly American JAVELIN. And Stinger... well.. its the league leader in Air Defense by far.

    It sounds like interesting new weapon delivery announcements are imminent, possibly including French Leclerc tanks in a bid to get German Leopard deliveries going also. More about that:

    Several countries are goading the German chancellor ahead of a meeting of Western defense ministers on Friday.

    BERLIN/DAVOS — International efforts to ship Ukraine modern tanks may hinge on Germany — but it’s waiting for the U.S. to move first, which isn’t happening.

    Ahead of a meeting of Western defense ministers this Friday at the U.S. Ramstein air base in Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz is being goaded to help Ukraine get Germany’s best-in-class Leopard 2 tanks in anticipation of a possible spring offensive. The reason: In addition to overseeing his own fleet of Leopard tanks — and Europe’s largest economy — Scholz must approve other countries’ donations of the German-made tanks.

    There’s an expectation Germany may soon at least allow allies like Poland and Finland to send their Leopards to Kyiv. And officials and diplomats in Berlin say the chancellor may even offer to help Ukraine with training and maintenance for the Leopards.
