About the only thing we can rely on Milley to do is go spill his guts to the Chinese military high command, as he has done before!

Now -- does anyone know (probably not) how many working, fully-operational Leopard 2 panzers there are currently in service in the Bundeswehr? My guess, is that the answer to that question might be both disappointing and somewhat sobering for everyone concerned -- except the Russians! At its highest levels, the Kommando Heer (High Command of the German Army) knows what they have in operational readiness, and, what they don't. But it is highly unlikely that a verifiable 'count' will ever become public knowledge....

Nevertheless, a follow-on question: how many fully-operational Leopard 2 panzers is Germany going to send to Poland, to send on to Ukraine? :confusion:

Poland's delivery to Ukraine would come from Polish army inventory.

    This is inspirational.

    Ukraine's Volunteers | Tim Judah

Even more impressive than Ukraine's will to fight is the vast network of citizens who are supporting the armed forces and helping those in need ...

". . . Even more impressive than Ukraine’s will to fight is the vast network of volunteers that underpins the armed forces and the defense of the country. At the Kyiv School of Economics, Tymofiy Mylovanov, its president, told me how in the first weeks of the war the school had formed a group of some eighty friends abroad—partners at global consulting firms, for example. They raised money with which the school bought flak jackets, medical kits, and helmets to distribute to soldiers at the front. When I asked him how many people had volunteered in one capacity or another across the country, he said that the numbers must run into the hundreds of thousands, but that it was impossible to know for certain. . . ."

Oh, then why all the big hullabaloo about Germany sending Leopard panzers if the Germans aren't, in fact, going to be sending panzers to Ukraine? I thought this was all just a big 'shell-game', but if it's just a thing between the Poles and the Ukes, then why all the 'angst' in Germany...?

The hullabaloo was about whether Germany would send from their own inventory.
Poland already possesses German tanks purchased previously. The purchase agreement requires German concurrence for Poland to export the tanks. Germany has said they won't block Poland's export.

Let’s hope that the Russian Federation groups continue the ‘myshanynna ‘ and start fighting each other at as temporary Allie’s fight against Moskva.

Because Germany says that only they can approve of their manufactured tanks being sent or transferred to other countries even between Poland and Ukraine.

True that depending on what time of day and what the temperature is Germany did say they will not oppose Poland transferring German made tanks to Ukraine. Yet even after that was said Germany said they were waiting for a letter of request for authorization of transfer.
So the ‘ myshanynna ‘ continues.

This is extremely serious. My dad used to let me that even just before independence he was afraid that retain Ukes who sell away or give away the country or otherwise betray the country for money, political philosophy, or in some way betray their country.

Does anyone know if the Leopard 2 tanks that Poland will send to Ukraine (with Germany's permission) will be equipped with the Rheinmetall Waffe 155 mm cannon or the 120 mm smoothbore?

Poland send the request today for 14 Leos, apparently Germany will send 14 to 15 as well, Belgium has a lease on 18 and wants to buy them and donate them to Ukraine. Norway will send 8 of its 36. Rheinmetall will have 20 ready by April/May. Finnland wants but has not said how many, Spain says it could but no numbers.
I would say the number will reach 100 very fast.
Now somebody will have to do some serious logistic planning.

Ok, the Abrams is equipped with the 105mm, or, the 120mm, but I thought NATO was standardizing on the 155mm...?

So, Germany and 12 other countries are sending Leopard tanks. Laopard tanks can hit targets 4000 meters away, which is farther than even the Abrams tank, and of course the Russian tanks

Ukraine expects to get 100 Leopard 2 tanks from 12 countries, once Germany approves: Senior Ukrainian official
https://abcnews.go.com/International/ukraine-expects-100-leopard-2-tanks-12-countries/story?id=96620510#:~:text=Germany gives Poland the green, spoke exclusively to ABC News.
Twelve countries have agreed to supply Ukraine with around 100 Leopard 2 tanks if the German government gives its consent, according to a senior Ukrainian official who spoke exclusively to ABC News.

Those agreements, the source said, were made at Friday's summit at Ramstein US Air Force Base in Germany when allied nations discussed military support for Ukraine.

Countries such as Poland and Finland have already indicated publicly that they are willing to provide a number of their Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

155mm is artillery. Standard gun for tanks in NATO 120mm smooth bore. Only the UK challenger 2 uses a 120mm rifeled gun.
105 was standard with previous generation like Leo1.
130mm will be the new standard, the new Panter tank has a 130mm smooth bore, which is a true can opener.

That is a outstanding tank at a dynamite price on top of it.
It is rated #2 in the world.

The KF51 Panter is a next generation tank. It comes in under 60 tons, 1500hp twin turbo diesel from the Leo2 and sports a 130mm gun, has its own drones and all the electronic crap you can stuff in a tin can.
    It came out last fall.
The russians tried the 130mm with the T14, but the tank could not handle it and ended up with a 125mm, which it can barely handle.

...I was under the assumption that the KF51 is just a concept vehicle...a prototype....it's a demonstration piece and (correct me if I'm wrong) there's no plans for its production....I mean there's a shed load of blurb from Rheinmetall but at this time there are no plans to adopt it? Is that right?

I wonder if there's still development of a 140mm cannon for the Leopard... they had trouble with it because the rounds weighed too much to handle. However, as you suggest, a 130mm smooth bore would be a match for the Russian Armata which I think has, or will have, a 125mm cannon.

The Biden administration is prepared to send several dozen Abrams tanks to Ukraine

The U.S. military is preparing to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine and may announce the decision Wednesday, according to three senior U.S. officials. The current plan includes a couple dozen Abrams tanks, which could take months to make the battlefield, but the officials stressed that the decision is not yet final and could change.

The plan, if executed, would be a reversal for the Biden administration, which had been resisting pressure from Germany to send the tanks.

Good. Now maybe Germany will follow suit .......giving the Ukrainians a fighting chance to WIN.....
