TN: Tyre Nichols was 'defenseless' during his 'savage' beating by police, attorneys say

BLM argues that there is more police brutality against blacks, and it makes it worse if the cop is white (assumption of racism), but apparently they have a gripe even then the cops are black.

 

They expect protests in many cities, and any protest on a Friday night can turn ugly, especially in the summer.

 

Unless the suspect runs away and kills another person. That isn't a good judgement call.

The best judgement call, is to not get into a fight with the cops.

I dunno in this case, if he died in the hospital 3 days later you would think the experts would have been able to mitigate any effects of drugs especially after a day. Something like Naloxone.
Photos seem to indicate he sustained quite a bit of physical trauma.

 

Well, certainly when the cops are white, its worth about $5 million more in settlement to the family, but why is it worse? Dead is dead.

There doesn't seem to be that much reliable information yet but I thought that the victim was in handcuffs during the beating.
Is that true?

I am generally supportive of LEOs and have known a few but at this time, I don't see any justification in beating anyone to the extent that the victim was beaten.

In addition to a couple of fistfights, I used to wrestle and box and once you've beaten someone, you don't continue to beat on them because it's no longer a fight and you're just beating on someone who is defenseless. At that point you become a sadistic bully.

I can't say what doctors should or should not have done, all I can ask for is all of the evidence. Is there any reason he should have been running from the police and fighting them? I know the answer is no, but why are people so dumb they keep doing it?

 

I seriously doubt it...

 

If 5 police officers are unable to contain a man that is on the ground without killing him then there is an issue with policing in this country.

 

Everyone should have a gripe against police brutality.

I'm not exactly sure how the fight went, but I'll wager the vid helps make a lot of sense. I'll also add that the toxicology report will be pretty helpful. If he was juiced up on fent he could take quite a beating before gassing out. I'll wait for the vid to judge the cops.

I'm coach Buri at my current Gracie School. I owned my own muay thai school for almost 10 years, so I can whole heartedly agree that if someone has become defenseless that the fight is over. In fact when someone was defenseless or gassed when I was an LEO we just cuffed them and it was over. I really want to see the vid. I have fought guys when I was arresting them and it took 4 of us to subdue someone due to alcohol or drugs, unless you've actually fought a grown man, and you have, cuffing people is incredibly hard.

Had it been a police force of 5 times the size of the rioters then no — I would not have believed her death would have been necessary

They want cops to leave them alone. Just ignore them. Don’t stop them, don’t chase them, don’t stop them, don’t bother with 911 calls. Let them handle it themselves. Fighting the cops is a show of manhood and a rejection of “white Law”.
Increase patrols where they are needed, and delete them where they are not. And have a much nicer day than before.
BTW, they were charged a bit too quick to be “rich in due process”.

 

The same sort of thing crossed my mind too because there are so few other plausible motives for 5 LEOs to be at the same place beating on the same person at the same time.

However, until I know more, I'm just going to assume that this incident was just criminal LEO rage.

At this point police who have to patrol our streets should not want to carry guns or make stops/arrests.
Given the trend to quickly release even many of the most violent criminals often without bail. Armed police should only be used after a warrant is issued.

Only an armed public can keep the peace. Armed uniformed police are just clearly marked targets for criminals.

 

More cops on the scene usually means less trouble from the perp. But at the end of the day, if you are going to wrestle the bull, you are probably going get gored.

 

The police chief said she sees no legit reason for Tyre having been pulled over in the first place.
