Very simple. If the world allows a bully country to rape and murder a neighboring country and it's not the first time, not only are they going to do it again, they'll become more and more brash. Now you might not mind a country raping and pillaging neighboring countries, but I and most the rest of the world does.

Prior to the Russian invasion, Ukraine had an army of about 6,000 and no Azov which you pro-Putinists seem to think is the most scary thing in the world. After the invasion, Ukraine now has hundreds of thousands in its military and Azov. Prior to the invasion, there was nothing for Russia to fear.

This "surrenders to the rest of the world" schtick is silly. All anyone wanted was Russia to be a good neighbor. The world really tried hard to make Russia feel welcome. But Russia decided to try another path. No one wants Russia to surrender. They just want Russia to leave their neighbors alone.

The US didn’t want the Soviet Union putting a military base so close for the same reason Russia doesn’t want the US/NATO so close to their country.

 

The US agreed to a Soviet base in Cuba just as it agreed to the USSR to guarantee Cuban territorial integrity and it agreed to nuclear capable bombers, ships & submarines landing and porting in Cuba. All that was forbidden was the basing of nuclear weapons in Cuba - something the USA has NEVER attempted or even suggested for Ukraine.

Why should Ukraine, a nation that has been repeatedly invaded and occupied by Russia/USSR have fewer security guarantees fro mthe US than Cuba did from the USSR?

Why should Ukraine not be allowed the same security guarantees, troops, aircraft & ship visits from the US that Cuba had from the USSR? You brought up Cuba as an example, why are you running away now. Why can't Ukraine have the same protection from Russia that Cuba had from the US?

 

Seems you missed my post where I said Ukraine has the right to join NATO. Just like Cuba had a right to join the Warsaw Pact. No one is running away, you just missed that post.
