I think the reason for the attempted cover up is how the police and the 911 operator handled the situation.

 

First, I think we need to dispel the myth that DePape was trying to escape and the broken glass happened from inside the home.

Everyone involved was acting very strangely from Paul himself, DePape, the cops who showed up at the door, and the 911 operator. And we still don't know who opened the door. Was it a voice command door that opened automatically when Paul said "open says me?" And there is speculation that Paul was holding a glass of water, but did anyone notice the possibility of ice cubes on the floor near Paul when he was on the ground? Did he have an ice maker in his bathroom? There is still more questions that need answers.
