not all the cars can be updated in that list on the website, free or not, that is the point - if one was lucky enough that the car supported both 3g and 4g, then a software update may allow them to use 4g, they are the lucky ones many kindles used free 3g too, that no longer works, it's just an issue we will face with built in cloud devices going forward
Well, yikes!! I'd say that is even worse than demanding a subscription! It's killing a feature that was sold as part of the car.
and due to the DMCA, hacking around it, to bypass it, would be a crime in fact, if car makers add a digital lock to the hood, it would be a crime for the owner to open it
That would be an outstandingly embarrassing prosecution if there ever was one. I know manufacturers hate having people hack their cars when they are under warranty. But, usually it just voids the warranty. If the "crime" is to make a feature work when the company won't do so, it seems more than perverse.
I fully agree in principle. However, I was thinking that your scenario involved connectivity no longer existed and without there being a solution by the manufacturer. So, they didn't really have a subscription to offer for sale. Of course, I may not have interpreted this problem correctly.
well, all your subscriptions would stop working too I assume, or one could damage the network and never pay for them again - as it could not call home to check if the status changed, my guess is if no check in after a certain amount of time, these features get disabled

As the EU Parliament voted on February 14th to ban the registration of new fossil fuel cars beginning in 2035, it appears the folly of the idea is just beginning to dawn on those who had been expected to take a more critical stand much earlier. . . .
Seems our nation decided to give Elon musk welfare. They decided to give incentives for buying electric cars. This means the car company can raise the price to eat up the incentive meaning it's just a kick back for a guy that spent 44 billion to buy Twitter.
you think the only breakdowns are someone runs out of gas in a ICE car even something as simple as water in the gas line freezes, you're out of commission for a bit if your alternator goes out, most modern ICE cars not going far after that
It IS price war, and its not illegal or wrong. Tesla is in position to do it, so they are doing it. I would do the same thing.
