We have had serious rain here about that time. It doesn't take a lot of water to melt that away!! Way soluble!

We should plant corn along the railroad if it really just spilled out of the railcar along the way.

Guess it depends on how fast it was falling out of the rail car. It it was spread over 500 or 1000 miles, you might be able to till it into the soil and get some use out of it.

As much as I want to think this is step one in a terror plot or a false flag plot to to fake terrorism (and it could be either!), the more likely explanation is a loose trap mechanism on the bottom of the car that trickled out product along hundreds of miles of bumpy rail.

It's weird that not much is being reported here! The main track "East/West" runs right through here..

    Odd..

    Here you go.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...al-lost-rail-shipment-officials-say-rcna85526
“The railcar was sealed when it left the Cheyenne facility, and the seals were still intact when it arrived in Saltdale. The initial assessment is that a leak through the bottom gate on the railcar may have developed in transit,” the spokesperson told KQED.

Thanks! Granted, it still seems to be speculation and nothing firm as of yet.

Officials have found this video of the robbery in progress... for some reason, they added background music...

BTW, this happened well over a month ago... I'm sure the investigation is well under way....

If true, the railroad company, yet again, failed to protect product.
It's like they don't follow good practices and regulations.

This pic was in your link.
Was it bagged and palleted like shown?
    How could it leak?

Pipelines don’t have derailments or explosives stolen from them. Yeah, I understand this wasn’t oil, but it could have been.

I was wondering the same thing. This is what I found. We won't know anything for sure until the investigation is complete but my early assumption is a faulty valve.

"In the United States, Ammonium is a “tight-fill” (closed-loop) loading operation and is loaded into rail cars via chemical hoses or 3” stainless steel loading arms. Ammonium Nitrate, if not handled properly can cause serious injuries and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required."

Sounds like they lost it through the hatch on the bottom of the car. Probably fertilized several miles of rail bed somewhere along the way.

That would seem to be an easy thing to confirm and you would think they would be doing that to put people's minds at ease

The actual likelihood of that happening on a stone rail bed is slim to none.... But maybe 8 years from now the rail bed might explode?
