No, I couldn't care less. I never saw the original, and didn't even know it existed, and nor do I plan to watch this one so why should I care what skin color the actors are.

That's a lot of money. They probably couldn't afford to pay a white actress.

 

But it actually is. Do you even know the story? They had to change the culture of the city and all the people, creating a totally different historical culture to make it all work. NOT white European. They changed everything but just kept the names. Wakanda doesn't need to be a black country in Africa by the way. It can be an island off Alaska that got lucky and harnessed the power of a meteor and shut themselves away from the rest of the world. Now its WHITE Panther. Would work just as well. STUPID, but it can work. No different from what they did in Little Mermaid.

I'm sure you'll go back to....bu bu buh, its all fake anyway and none of it exists, so they can change whatever they want. Yes...AND they did. How about a black Belle in France in that time period? But I guess there's a talking Creature and magic, so who needs to stick to the details.

Like when Call of Duty or Battlefield made a female the main character fighting on the front lines in WWI. And people didn't miss how we had a bunch of black and Asian Norse Gods or god-like people=) Don't recall many black people in Norse Mythology, but just stick them in there, because hey, why not. Can't recall a single white person living in Wakanda, besides Bucky, who was just a visitor. Rules go one way, but not the other.

First let us understand something, the minute Disney put a black face on a white girl the movie became about race. And they did it on purpose. Again lefties play divide and conquer.

Oh a question, black face is okay now as long as it's a cartoon character?

 

Could it be the same reason certain people were upset with Johnny Depp playing Tonto?

 

Skin color didn't matter until progressives decided it mattered enough to keep score and go on a crusade to replace SPECIFICALLY white characters with black ones instead of making new stories with black leads.

Now it matters.

 

I know that, I'm just saying that there was a cartoon from 1995 on HBO Family that did a story close to that.

 

Heh, i dont normally post on, just read links and catch up with news. This thread however made me chuckle. Are real adults concerned about kids film and the lack of 'historical ' truth? Hate to spoil any illusions about the wrong race playing the wrong character, but....jesus wouldnt be portrayed as white...and to many he is real, not a frickin mermaid in a kids film..lol

 

I go back far enough to remember the tail end of the Golden age of comics when hawkman was a white guy. By the way I watched Black Adam. Good movie but I wouldn't take my four year old grandson to see it. Anti heroes are a bit above his pay grade just yet.

 

But, no, it isn't. The race of the characters that you are whining about doesn't really serve a story purpose. It does for MLK or Wakanda. And there have been shitloads of white superheroes with similar stories. Hell, Thor is part of a massively technologically advanced civilization and you are fine with him being white. Also, the comics DID have a white counterpoint to Black Panther and they even made a reference to it in the movie. I'll you've got is "bu bu buh" and it isn't even well thought out "bu bu buh." As far as races of people in Norse Mythology . . . the Norse pictured not only the entirety of our world but several additional worlds each with their own races. You are projecting your own one-sided hypocrisy onto other people. And, no, Bucky wasn't the only white person to go to Wakanda and part of the point of those movies was the country becoming less isolationist.

 

Except Tonto was literally supposed to be a Native American. That was part of his whole character. Personally, I don't mind, and he supposedly got a lot of support from Native Americans, but it's a different situation. That's closer to, say Moses being played by a non-Jew or Ramses being played by a white guy, both of which have been done well, but let's not pretend it's the same thing as a character whose skin has been changed when that doesn't even have anything to do with the story.

 

in fact in norse mytholgy the gods would appear to people and look as them. There are many renditions of these ancient gods across many cultures and many races.

 

Or maybe it's a protest against blatant WOKENESS lunacy. I vote for that.

Personally I wouldn't get upset at either, nor do I understand why anyone would get upset at either. But then again, I'm not a snowflake.
