Snow White isn’t white and the Dwarves aren’t dwarves anymore!

Disney doing it again. Snow White is Hispanic, and the Dwarves are just a bunch of different “people” in the LGBTQ+ rainbow.

Wonder if it’ll do as well as Peter Pan, Little Mermaid and Indiana Jones? Hehe.

When they do the live action remake of Princess and the Frog who’s betting everyone will still be black from Louisiana and stay true to the story and characters like they’re supposed to? Don’t think any deviation will happen

I actually don’t have much issue who’s playing anyone as long as they actually look like the characters they’re supposed to be. What a lost opportunity to employ a bunch of little people!

True. And if Mickey Mouse looked like an elephant, are they still Mickey Mouse Then explain why ONLY white and male characters are being turned female or a POC, while not the other way around?

I don't subscribe to the notion of the immutability of cartoonists' confections.

If you like to imagine Tinker Bell as macho stormtrooper, go for it.

 

You look at LGBT movies and sink faster than the titanic. The newest example is “bros”. No one cares about the lgbt community. We’re okay with letting them live their lives but no one wants to watch it, no one wants it in their face.

 

I’ll bet the queen is still white AF.

 

Then, why not leave them in their original form? It's just cartoons. Right?

I'm OK with the 7 but the titular character, Snow White is now brown? Kinda silly.

The bigger issue is, where is the original programming?

BTW: I used to watch Once Upon A Time with my daughter but we never finished it. Did it have an end? Satisfying?

 

They will have to change the name too. Maybe- "Snow That Got Peed on A Little and the Seven Dwarfs"

 

I can't wait till Mel Gibson stars as Kunta Kinte in a remake of "Roots".

 

My wife was mainly the one watching but I would catch bits and pieces. She never finished it either though, so I won't be of any help there.

On one hand, I do get the annoyance with changing characters, for no real reason other than to be inclusive. Thing is, every time they have to change a character's ethnicity to be more inclusive, it's essentially saying folks can't come up with new characters whose race, gender, sexual orientation, etc are established from the start so they just have to shoehorn it in to existing characters.

But on the other hand, it's a fiction story so it really doesn't matter. It's already a made-up character that somebody designed in their mind to exist on a page or screen. Their attributes don't exist, they are whatever the author wants them to be. The only time this kind of thing is really dumb is when it's done with characters based on real life people. Not just loosely based, directly based. And I also have to consider that it hasn't been that long since racist stereotypes were a lot of what you saw on screen for many minorities.

I say all this with the realization that as a straight white male, representation in media has never been something I had to care about. Does that mean others shouldn't?

 

Can you explain why you are upset about the race of fictional cartoons? Why do you want them to be white?

 

It's more agenda based then profit motivated. Kids growing up in this generation will only have that movie to base the story on....growing up missing the sweet character and magic of the original.

 

You are free to watch "Steamboat Willie" repeatedly, if you are opposed to change.

It's a crude attempt to cancel the classic. It's more then race that is changing. Why even call it "Snow White". Call it a different title because from what I'm reading....its NOT Snow White.

Hamilton was exclusive black -mostly...they let one or two whites in ...but it was a great performance where race mattered not to the story. It mattered to the producers of course. But ultimately the narrative wasn't a story about race to me. It was a story about our founding.

Snow white has a narrative change...its not the classic.

How does changing the race of the characters cancel the story?

 

If Disney really wants to be stunning and brave, maybe they could do a black Tarzan.

If it expected to attract an audience by casting a cartoonish Tommy Tuberville as Little Black Sambo, why not be creative?
