Why can't the problem be that the employer is a dick and is underpaying his employee's?

True story, I swear. For some reason fast food around here went up in price real quickly. Walmart has a chili paste that I just love - two years ago a jar was under $2. Now it’s $6.

oops, it wasn’t Burger King, it was whataburger CACE2446-EF5B-42E2-A8FB-65257C3D40F7.jpeg

    What does "underpaying" mean?

Democrats are too narrow minded to understand that when you raise the salaries of low skilled jobs closer to others that require REAL skills, everyone has to get a raise to compensate. But I guess in their minds, if everyone gets paid more, everyone makes MORE money...WRONG!!!! Democrats lack of Econ 101 and understanding of Inflation has been quite obvious the past few years=) Its like they haven't noticed how when you print money, everything gets more expensive so all that money is now worth LESS, so we're no better off than we were. The numbers are just higher. LOOK minimum wage is $20/hr, but a happy meal now costs $50. LOOK you're all rich now!

    IDIOTS!!!!

Why should they get a raise?

What a boost for robotics!!! After the initial investment, for the long run... robots will be loads cheaper than people in the fast food industry!

Wow, I remember flipping pancakes for around $3 US an hour, equivalent. Delivering newspapers six mornings a week for $10.

So... You think any activity that involves labor for pay should pay enough to support, say, a family of 4? Literally anything??

Oh, I'd say it's been around for a minute or two longer than that. Still, regardless of why, when, or where it started, when you use the power of law to dictate to businesses what they must pay their lowest level employees- people who barely qualify to get hired for anything at any price, you start putting those very unskilled people out of the jobs they already have. Those who treat those high-school level starter-jobs as careers (which they are NOT) will not do well in that kind of environment... When your top value to an employer is the ability to push a broom WITH supervision, well... You ain't exactly holding a full boat, so you're not gonna win much of the time.

They only have to be for abject idiots. Ergo, not my problem. If all you're capable of is entry level high-school work, all you're worth is high-school level cash. And high-school students should not and cannot afford to support a family.

Attributing entire states to either red or blue is a very simple minded way of thinking.

You should strive to do better. Maybe take a look at who's taking those federal benefits....I don't know, just an idea.

Yet , you are in CA. that speaks for itself.

If CA was so bad , you would leave CA and move to one of the RED state where Blue state's tax $$ buy food stamps.

I don’t know that would end the poverty, but CA can feed their one Resident than lazy conservatives who sit and watch TV all day in RED state.

But that's what we want, right? A welfare state where the rich get taxed to pay for the slovenly?

It’s the policy of the RED state force it’s resident to live on hand out.

Poorest state by poverty rate in the country – 8 out of top 10 states are RED state,

Lowest GDP per Capita. Again 8 out of 10 are RED state

Crime rate by Per capita – again 8 out of 10 states are RED state

Homocide rate by per capita. Again 7 out of 10 states are RED state.

Apparently Conservative policy doesn’t work in RED state. Most of the RED state are the poorest, too many crimes, too little GDP

That's clear. Doesn't seem like leadership in California knows what to do about it either. They spent half a trillion dollars in FY 2022. At the same time poverty rates in CA went in the wrong direction. I highly doubt another 39 billion was the tipping point.

One resident? Are you talking about California feeding one resident poor person? Why is resident capitalized? Is that a play on words or something?

Than is a subordinating conjunction that makes a comparison between the main clause and the subordinate clause. Is this just a spelling error and you mean "then" or are you making a comparison? I can't quite parse what you're thinking here.

Is this like a quantum superposition argument where you'll argue that people are poor because they are lazy when its convenient and that people are poor because of someone else's greed when it's convenient? Can we quantify their poverty status by the color of their hat? Red or blue?

Systems are designed to serve a purpose. When you claim the system doesn't work, you're claiming that the system doesn't work to serve your purpose. Maybe your goals and theirs are different. Seems like many Californians agree with those red state goals since quite of few of them are fleeing California and migrating to red states. Oft cited are statistics of crime, cost of living, excessive regulation, etc...
