    @Curious Always
I'm pretty sure these Tokay geckos are well established in Miami and the keys. Do you see them in your area? I used to have one of these when I was a boy and they are fascinating lizards. Do they do have a reputation for being mean and they have a pretty painful bite and they say that they cannot be tamed in captivity.

Great insect control but I'm sure they eat any native animals that they can overpower too.

They're actually pretty vocal and are known for their bark.

You just reminded me of this guy I worked with once years ago. He moved so slow he could make time stand still and didn't do much because he moved so slow. One day we are on the side of the road. There is this loud, long screeching of tires and an out of control car was headed towards us. This slow mover turned into a gazelle. He ran, leaped and cleared the guardrail then sprinted halfway up an embankment. We couldn't believe what we saw. Funniest thing and then he went right back into slow motion after that.

Our capacity to generate adrenaline is insane. My grandmother could hardly walk when my grandfather died. After it was calming down, she told us she literally ran down the stairs to get to the phone. She was super sore for days, but she got to that phone in a hurry. Crazy.

(I will assume everyone in this thread knows what it’s like to have to get to the kitchen phone, lol.)

Even back in the day when the phone had a cord attached to it!

My grandma still had a rotary phone. I bet kids nowadays couldn't make a call on one to save their soul

My grandparents had just the one phone, and it was always rotary. When my grandfather died, she moved to be closer to her daughter. That house had TWO phones; button style, LOL.

Kids today couldn’t handle waiting 30 minutes until mom got off the phone. Oy…. We just had to wait, and wait.

We were on a party line until I was about 11 or 12. Had to wait for the neighbor lady to get off the phone. LOL

I’m not THAT old. This was the mid 1980’s. :)

AND they'd listen in to your conversations.. we could tell they were on the line and usually knew who the eavesdropper was.

Yep. In my case by the time I was old enough to remember there was only one other family on our line though. Mrs. Green talked to her friends for HOURS.

I wouldn't even begin to know how to get an operator if I needed one today.

Funny story, I was working in Las Vegas and there was a local bar that we'd hang out at after work. One night a guy came in to borrow the phone. He was a regular patron and constantly drunk. The bartender asked why he wasn't using his own phone and he said that his service had been cut off because he'd been making too many obscene phone calls. The bartender let him borrow the phone and he got an operator. All we could hear was his end but it soon became obvious that she knew him just by voice! This wasn't in some little town either. I mean Vegas probably had 3/4 of a million people living there at that time!

The same way as always-- dial zero. It will just cost you a mint now. I heard somewhere that it'll cost you about $15.00 then a couple bucks a minute. It is an issue I have seen come up in discussion about criminal justice reforms because inmate families often cannot afford to accept a collect call these days.

My first phone number was Old Dalby 646.
This would have been around 1969 when I was 4.
    Later it became 822646.

I realized last weekend I had forgotten to get a gift for my turning four years old grandson. Fortunately, I remember seeing one of these. 09EB2CC9-C70F-4F09-9B76-DB0E66FDCBCE.jpeg Help loved it.

Is there anything more frustrating than not being able to find your snap ring pliers?

You win! Finally found them and they weren’t damaged.

I have taken damaged ones to the bench grinder for rehabilitation!
