"PacPizza, LLC, operating as Pizza Hut, has made a business decision to eliminate first-party delivery services and, as a result, the elimination of all delivery driver positions," a federal WARN Act notice filed by the fast-food operator with the state's Employment Development Department said, Business Insider reported.

Another operator, Southern California Pizza Co. also announced layoffs of around 841 drivers across the state. The moves impact Pizza Hut locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties.

Lots of pizza places are letting the gig companies take over that part of their business. Pizza Hut sucks anyway.

So what your saying is that Pizza Hut is saving money by letting Door-dash, Uber-eats, and other delivery companies take over their delivery because its much cheaper for them….color me SHOCKED….

What would you do? Would you raise the price of pizza or hit the customer with a delivery charge?

I think they all charge for delivery and have for years.

It's better than Papa Johns. The worst of the worst is Little Caesars.

Once you leave the northern NJ/NYC area the pizza goes down hill.

I found NYC pizza to be flat and unimpressive. But yah little Cesar’s is just for if you’re backed up. Definitely will get things moving. Only time I had Pizza Hut was when they were in target or back in the 80s for some reading thing in school lol

New Haven used to have the best pizza in the USA because that is where American style pizza was developed. Pepe's and Sally's were the best with a couple places closer to Yale (Yorkside and Naples were decent enough)

Never been to Chicago or had their pizza. From what I hear it's more like a casserole than pizza

You're in CA, right? During my 21 years there I never found any good Italian food. What I did find was great Mexican food which NJ/NYC doesn't have.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say for the most part people like the food they grew up with.

I have to put in a word for Little Caesars.... we finally went back and tried it this summer after 15 years off, primarily because our 2 fav pizza places closed in a space of about 2 months. Both were solid NY Style places, so I'm guessing you've never had anything reasonably authentic. When NY Style is done right, it's out #1 choice.

    Anyway, LC wasn't bad.

It wasn't as good as what we are now missing, by a mile, but it's still better than Dominos or Pizza Hut.

Welcome to the forum.... as a reminder, if you open a thread in Current Events, you need to include a link to a non paywalled source, and the thread title HAS to be the article title..

So if you had used this article:

    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/california-pizza-huts-lay-off-234021911.html

Your thread title would be -
California Pizza Huts lay off all delivery drivers ahead of minimum wage increase

If you need to shorten the title for space, do some creative editing, but include the full title in the thead somewhere...

Lucky you. My first wife was 100 percent Puerto Rican and she couldn't make rice. I'd do anything for a good way to make carne asada like they do in CA, the Mexican food in the Las Cruces/El Paso area is no where near as good as it is in So Cal.

There's a REALLY good Italian restaurant about three blocks from where I live that I've patronized for decades now but outside of that everything else is a pale imitation of what I had when I was in Italy. And as far as Mexican food - well, a great deal of my family is from Mexico with my daughter-in-law being the best Mexican cook I've ever met, so I've had my fair share!

I can't say as I've ever had Papa Johns, although there's one about a block away so I've never gotten the hate for it. One of these days, I've got to order it and see just so I can say I tried it. But a few former students of mine, their family has run a buncha Domino's close to me for eons now - when I order pizza the employees always give me the employee discount cuz their three kids said I was their favorite teacher - so that ain't happening soon. Hey, I'm not above using my resources wisely!

Dominos Brooklyn style pizza isn’t as insulting as Little Caesars anything.

I remember someone once told me over a slice of pizza that pizza is a lot like sex, that even with the worst pizza, it is still better than no pizza at all. Anyone that has a problem with that, is just being a snob.

Raise the price…..thats what they always do. That way they get the delivery fee, but they also get it on pickups and dining room.

Sounds like they will use 3rd parties for deliver like their competitors.

I don't remember the name, but there was a very good local pizza chain in Cincinnati. I ordered a lot from them when I was there in -95

Pepe's was well known and often had a line to just order.

California has already tried to force a $20 minimum wage for 3rd-party delivery drivers.

It's been tied up in the courts since 2020 because it's such a monumentally-bad idea, but it'll probably happen eventually, because California is where monumentally-bad ideas are the rule, rather than the exception.
