They are considering putting it on the ballot, so it doesn't sound like "forcing", but rather letting the people decide. Also, the 3rd party drivers are independent contractors and hence pay salary to themselves, so whether they pay $15 or $20, its still the left hand giving money to the right hand aka its their own money.

I never claimed that it was being "forced" on anybody.

Californians are notorious for willingly voting for the monumentally-bad ideas that are destroying their state.

Prop 22 was already on the ballot, and it passed.

The whole purpose of Prop 22 that California voters willingly passed is to do away with independent contractors such as "gig work" delivery drivers.

Do you put raisins in your meatballs? Some Italians do, some Italians don't and I prefer that they don't.

Other way around, the passing of Prop 22 meant that app based transport and delivery drivers would be recognized as independent contractors instead if employees. This means the app companies would NOT be required to provide mandated benefits to said drivers.

They are responding to vote buying schemes so they can stay in business. Why does someone transporting pizza get priority over an EMT, transporting patients to the ER? The irony is that fast food consumption creates more patients for the ER. Government knows best, right?

Fast food workers are "preferred citizens" in the eyes of government and shall receive preferential pay rates. The EMT was not so lucky and was not deemed "Preferred" by the crown. They may decide its not worth having contact with bodily fluids for the same pay as a fast food worker and change occupations. Just think how much better off society is with fewer EMTs1

    Brilliant!

You're missing the fact that these places are different options. Its not just 'pizza'.
Papa Johns is a nice hand toss pie, with various specialty meats available. They have good delivery.
Pizza Hut is made in cast iron pans, a different style of pizza and a different texture and flavor. Not so great on delivery, never arrives on time and hot.
Little Caesars is hot and ready and cheap as ****. Its not gourmet, its hot and ready and cheap as ****.
    Etc.

You want a small place generally speaking. Those are going to be your best bet of getting 'real' pizza. Chains are almost always going to be disappointing.

    When they stop buying it.

Pizza Hut is bargain basement pizza. They prolly spend $2 all in on a large pizza and charge $14. And Pizza Hut pizza should come with a complimentary roll of TP

They are receiving preferential treatment. Why is an hour of a fast food worker more valuable than an hour of an EMT, group counselor. caregiver, etc?

Hey I'm not here to argue your taste in Pizza, I prefer Domino's myself especially the brownies that come with them.

    They aren’t.
What earlier this year seemed like a long shot is now a done deal: Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed a law that will raise the pay for hundreds of thousands of California health care workers and set them on a path to a $25 minimum wage.
