They owe NATO! 65% of NATO member are below the 2% military spending threshold. Some WELL below the threshold ... /cough Canada.. And yes... it is a protection racket. If they don't get their military up to speed, they then rely on the US to do it for them... They know the US will, especially as long as the war hawks in our current administration remain in office.

Balderdash... We have been in a perpetual proxy war with Russia and China for at least 7 decades with at least a million lives lost.

Sad to see someone claim to be West Point graduate with such world view; "pay-up or your life is not worth saving".

This wasn't a warning to NATO allies that he's going to let Russia do "whatever the hell they want." It was a story about how he got NATO nations to pay their commitments while he was president.
    Good God. lol

a quick question...on top of the national % spend on defence for the EU countries there is in addition the EU expenditure on defence which is roughly what...1.1/1.2% of EU GDP I think it amounts to EUR240Bn of project finance with something like EUR50Bn per annum? If you then re-distribute that (all EU member countries are also NATO countries) then how do the overall figures compare for the EU member countries?

You can take it any way you want. He flat out encouraged our enemies to attack our allies, and he says US will stay out of it if he is in charge. I get it you feel compelled to defend your political leader, but his words were broadcasted globally.

"No I would not protect you. In fact I would encourage them to do what ever the hell they want." - Donald J Trump

    Nope, not defending Trump.
Just correcting the lefty fake propaganda regurgitators taking information out of context.

    Trumps EXACT words

NATO was busted until I came along. I said everybody's going to pay. They said, Well, if we don't pay, are you still going to protect us?
I said absolutely not. They couldn't believe the answer. I came in. I made a speech and I said, you gotta pay up.
They asked me that question. One of the presidents of a big country stood up said, Well sir, if we don't pay and we're attacked by Russia,
    Will you protect us?
    I said you didn't pay, you're delinquent?
He said yes, lets say that happened.
No I would not protect you.
In fact I would encourage them to do what ever the hell they want.

And the result was, 11 members paid up.

Yes, you prefer paying off terrorist like Clinton did, Like Obama did, like Biden did, because you don't have a single lefty candidate that can't even stand up against terrorist. Would you like just the latest example?

April 18, 2021-Biden declared on national television he wasn't leaving Afghanistan until every American was accounted for.

US troops will stay until all Americans are out of Afghanistan, even if past Aug. 31 deadline: Biden to ABC News
    https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/us-...-afghanistan-biden-abc-news/story?id=79507932

August 24, 2021- The Taliban threatens Biden to get out by Aug 31 or you will pay for the consequences

Taliban warns there will be 'consequences' if Biden delays withdrawal of US troops
    https://news.sky.com/story/afghanis...biden-delays-withdrawal-of-us-troops-12388436

August 31, 2021 Biden abandons Americans to the Taliban, leaves behind billions in American fighting equipment, and evacuates Afghanistan like the f***ing coward he really is. And you whine about Trump?

Stop sucking up to these lefty cowards and the country would be much better off.

So the answer is no. And Trump stated

"No I would not protect you. In fact I would encourage them to do what ever the hell they want. "

    Hence the statement still stands

LOL. Of course you are. Its all you ever do, and now you are trying to help him steal credit for things he had nothing to do with, like the increase in spending, which begun years before he took office.

Thats because you don't like being held accountable for your out of context claims, you can't dispute what I posted, so your last ditch effort is to blame it on me for correcting you.
    Hilarious though

As a German I want my country and the EU to be able to defend itself. Trump strengthens the EU and not NATO or the US. The EU has a military component which had been weakened by the US until Trump’s first presidency but he managed to silence the pro US voices in the EU.

If we don’t need NATO anymore will we need the Dollar anymore or can we push the Euro as the dominant currency in the world? Don’t fear the BRICS countries in concern to the Dollar dominance, fear the Euro because nobody wants the Indian or Chinese currencies. If NATO fails can we allow US software and computer hardware in our critical infrastructure?

It sure did. Now the entire organization is compromised and our enemies are probably planning an attack already.

Not sure what relevance this has to do with NATO membership? The requirement is 2% of GDP.. if they are spending additional defense spending for EU requirements, then their percentage as a whole would be up. If they are below the 2% threshold, then that means they are not meeting NATO and apparently the EU defense requirements.

You mean like 11 of them paying up? I got it and I approve.
Why should the US foot everyone else bill?

Since he said it 6 years ago, and 11 NATO members got current, making the organization stronger, sounds more like exaggerations.

...yeah a bit of an issue really isn't it...seems like there's been a bit of a reality check now though!!
....odd though isn't it that pensions and disability payments are also included within the 2% calculation along with all the other obscure costs which are allowable....wherein one wonders just how much is really being spent on the shooty things!
...UK is not a pretty example of this...but that's for another day...

    Cheers mate
