You will forgive me but ... the professional concerned has expertise in the subject matter concerned via ongoing training over the course of his entire career. (And he is only one of several I've discussed this war with.) On the other hand the (no doubt) many long hours you've spent playing War Thunder? That does not count as subject matter expertise. So if I have to choose whose opinion on this topic I would give more credence to?

Victory for Russia was initially just for Ukraine not to join NATO - and not
base US missiles in the country.

And as I understand it, Russia was insisting on Kyiv adhering to the Minsk
Accords, not to kill the Russian-speaking population as they had been doing,
and that was the other concern.

And that agrees with what they actually did which was to move forces in to
the East of Donetsk and Luhansk to stop Kyiv from placing artillery there and
    bombarding the cities.

But weirdos in the State Department and White House decided that what the
Russians want is entirely different from what they are actually doing, and that
is they really want a huge war all over Europe.

And Congress has proven itself gullible yet again. They voted over 99% in favor of
war in Vietnam on the basis of no convincing evidence, over 99% in favor of war in
Afghanistan on the basis of even less evidence, and have sent the initial shipment
of weapons in 2021 to Ukraine which started the war.

To save face after losing, the State Department will claim that what Victoria
Nuland and A Blinken wanted was, whatever ends up happening, and therefore
    we won.

What happened to the 'de-nazification' of Ukraine, the replacement of the elected government and the military occupation of Kiev? Beyond that neither side ever came close to fully implemented the Minks Accords.

I'll take a guess that de-Nazification would be nice but the same result would
be achieved if the Nazis never got from Western Ukraine over to kill Russian
    speaking people in Eastern Ukraine.

I'll take another guess, that the objective of the military occupation of Kiev
was to get a peace agreement, and that was achieved on Apr 1 2022,
though subsequently aborted by the UK and US.

Did this 'professional' get his butt ran out of Afghanistan by a few goat herders?

I'm enjoying the mental gymnastics....it's quite entertaining.

'Expertise via ongoing training' :truce: unless he is currently training in the Donbass or he's a WW2 infantry veteran, he knows nothing other than what a book has told him.

What happened to the Sovs in the 80s Bill....in Afstan?

Look at it this way.....the Z's had it easy when the US/NATO kept a lid on the Talibs for 20 years since 2001.....now the Mafiosi can look after their own security via Tajikistan.

Good luck with 250000 Talibs with long memories.

South Caucasus is gonna burn again.

You shouldn't try to flame bait by attempting to use an internet translated Russian slur. You just look stupid instead.

What the Biden Administration and the neocons have done is to shift the goal posts.
Pres. Putin has been very clear for many years on what Russia requires, and the
whole Kremlin and most of the public agree.

The Russian public have looked with concern at the expansion of NATO ever
Eastward, and missile locations in NATO countries, which are potentially dual
use launchers. And as the Ukrainian Army went from the sort of size you would
expect to absolutely huge, with US funding.

These are Russia's actual goals, not that Vladimir Putin wants to be the next
Napoleon, guess who made that one up?

No, I was right in my comments on this previously. A country invaded by another country, that has territory taken, and then when the war ends, not matter how, whether through surrender or agreement, has permanently lost that territory, has...lost. I know from previous posts you include a host of long term consequences that over decades may show that the defeated nation has might have positive effects or whatever, but that's simply a cope by people who have sworn from the beginning of this war that Ukraine will defeat Russia and won't accept that they're wrong, so they change the definition of winning and losing in order to say, "But Ackchyually..."

I'm simply not interested in those sort of excuses, because that's what they are, excuses.

As for your general praise of expertise, the last 20 years or so have really dragged on my ability to take "experts" seriously when they are wrong so often, and that's whether they're a scientist or a General. So pleading that your friend is a professional doesn't mean anything unless he can actually demonstrate it, and if he thinks that the defeated country ackchyually, is the real winner than I question his subject matter expertise and professionalism.

To clarify the moving goalposts lie:

Putin's aim in Ukraine we know, in his dreams,
was to steal Earth's Moon, and therefore he
    FAILED!

In point of fact the bradley gunner who took out an MBT with a chain gun learned that little trick from war thunder.

Of course. It was a clumsy translation, very clumsy. And you confirming it was just proves what most people here already suspected. Thank you.

And there's your problem in a nutshell. Good luck with the do it yourself, dentistry, car and house repairs!

I can only quote Issac Asimov. 'The strain of anti-intellectualism (in the US) has been a constant thread winding it's way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

Cute quote, but has nothing to do with what I said, particularly on the idea of winning or losing a war.

    Did YOU ever think that

That there might be a vast unfathomable difference between --- say ---
The the expert practice of an EVILVoodoo War PIG Diplomacy that sponsors & funds
a dirty Proxy War, that USES the lives and blood of Human Beings for fun, power
.. and Profit$. -- and the -- The studied & practiced, scientific and manual, expertise
..........................& skills involved in dentistry, Nuclear Physics and car & home repair?

No YOU didn't did YOU ?
So YOUR appeal to "The strain of anti-intellectualism in the USA" has
..................................been duly noted and appreciated as it is so Revealing

They must have suspected some people are too ignorant not to cross check it in google translate. If you want to be cute, just use Russian, then everyone can translate it.

Sorry no, you stated and I quote 'As for your general praise of expertise, the last 20 years or so have really dragged on my ability to take 'experts' seriously when they are wrong so often' . No exceptions or exemptions to this rule stated or alluded to. If you want to change your statement to specifically include only military experts that's up to you but then the onus is on you to also explain why that's the case.

Your ignorance is a question for another time. Your fluency in Russian is not.
