The West Coast Eagles could use him, they will take anything these days.

Still, not as bad as Melbourne, I hear their recruiters have resorted to grave digging.

I never said the US was better than Australia. I'd move there, or any other number of countries if it weren't for the fact that my entire family is in the US, thus it would be difficult to move elsewhere.

    Bob - it was, I think, a bit of laconic Australian humour - remember, "that's not a knife...THAT's a knife!" ?

I could be wrong but that's how I filtered it through my cultural screening process :)

Full back though, someone with plates like that can only go for distance. And as much as I hate full forwards (frigging show ponies) they need to be accurate.

That is why any AFL team with any sense would recruit all their full forwards from Morman Utah, these guys are so accurate they have more kids than a Wiggles world concert.

Ok. Now that Obama just passed the health care bill and didn't listen to 75% of the country that didn't want it (Ok might be more like 60%) now I want to leave. Not so much that I have to pay more in tax for health care but it's more about the fact he didn't listen to the majority of Americans, and it is against our consitituion to force us to pay for health care or get fined. Also this bill comes with other taxes on other things, such as the Health Care surgcharge added to your restaurant bill when you go out to eat and forcing americans to pay for abortions. I'm really considering moving out of the country and I feel that the other side of the world might be better. I don't know much about other countries (Yes, I'm that American) but i'm trying to research and learn. I've been reading a lot about Austrailia (yes I know you have public health care). America is not what it used to be. The politians are to radical now both dems and republicans. I don't agree with the directions that the country is going and I don't want to be here when it comes down on them. So I have some questions for you.

    1. What kind of cars do you have? Fords, chevy's, toyotas, ect?
    2. I'm a computer guy, where do you get your computers or what are the manufactures?
    3. Do the computer use Windows and or MAC OS?
    4. What do you think of Windows 7??
    5. Is it mostly desert there and do most people live near the shore or do a lot of people reside close to the center of the coutry?
    6. From reading about your country I see you have a Queen. Do you also have a King?
    7. Do you have any super volcanos that may blow soon?
    8. Do you politians not listen to the people or do they think they know what is best for you?
    9. Do you live in houses with just your imidiate family such as husban, wife and children or do you live with your extended families? I know some countries stuff as many people into houses as they can. I couldn't live with 20 other people in my house. lol.
    10. Are my question very typical of an American?

We certainly have all of those options. Chevy's arent all that popular, though (at least where I'm from).

Im reasonably certain we purchase our computers from the same manufacturers you guys would. I'm not aware of any manufacturers in Australia.

Yes. Or Linux, Unix, or whatever you want.

I haven't got it yet. Its available, and reviews seem pretty good.

The center of the country is almost dead. I guess about 80% or so of the population lives in coastal cities.

No, we have a Prince consort.

Nope. The continent is geologically dead. Expect a Volcano and Earthquake-free lifestyle.

We are 10th on the Democratic index. America is 18th (Canada is 11th and New Zealand is 7th). So yes, we are more democratic than America.

No. Our family structure is essentially the same as yours.

Actually, no. Anything else? I'm happy to help if I can.

    1. Yep we have every car you'll need.

    2. China.....you can get any computer you want.

    3. Whatever....mainly windows

    4. NFI

    5. Lot's of desert, driest continent other than the icy bits. Lots of shore, but lots of inland rivers, dry center.

    6. The Queen is still our "head of state"...in name. Not that it means much other that a lot of stuff starting with "royal".

    7. Nope

    8. Do politicians do anything else?

    9. Extended families are not the norm. Perhaps they should be.

    10. No. You have not asked about the Kangaroos that run through town killing people.

Any American thinking of coming to Australia should be wary of drop bears.
Other than that, have a great time!

Judging from the idiocy of the questions being asked about Australia by some posters I wouldn't go posting about Drop Bears, Mak. They might just believe you and spend their entire lives walking around looking up at the trees. With the level of intelligence they are exhibiting they would probably walk into the tree trunks and kill themselves.

    Mak,

Have you been paying attention to the questions being asked about Australia. My God, it's like a bunch of second graders are asking about Mars. Australia is pretty much like the rest of the Western World even though it is located in the Southern Hemisphere. If you go to Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane or any other city you could just as well be in London or Chicago, or Munich. Any American moving to Australia would be very comfortable and fit right in, other than going barefoot in a supermarket. That's just gross.

Australia is basically just awesome. Australian cities really do kick arse, we've got a good mix of Americanisms and European culture. Europe is nice, but you find yourself thinking, ******* it I wish something was actually open on a bank holiday, or there were a few less beggars on the streets. America is cool, but sometimes you just find yourself saying, *******, I wish there were a few less Americans. Australia is the happy go-between. I recommend Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Adelaide is a bit bodged and I've never been to Perth.

But if your main gripe is that your politicians don't listen to you, then unfortunately you're going to still be out of luck in Australia. As if anyones politicians listen to the people these days. Our politics is less of a circus than yours though, granted. But if you're anti government health care, well we already have it so that's kinda awkward. Australia is somewhere in between America and Europe in our politics. And by Europe I mean the UK.

The only thing you have to worry about in Australia is fires in the south and floods in the north. But they're not usually a problem. Er, and we live on the shore not in the desert and usually just with the immediate family.

We have the queen of England, so no we don't have a King, just her husband who is a prince. But we WILL have a king when she shuffles off, although at that point we might become a republic.

Windows 7 is actually pretty good I think.

Your questions aren't exactly typical of an American other than them being generally ignorant and some quite stupid, though I hope they weren't serious questions in general.

An American in Austalia, or for that matter, New Zealand, would be hard pressed to find any major differencesfrom what he is used to back home. The people might sound a little strange at first with a distinct accent that is really quite pleasant on the ears. After a while you wouldn't even notice it. You would not understand some of the local colloquialisms at first but would soon pick them up. About the biggest difference would be the presence of Jester's Pies, something that has no equivalent in the States and the ubiquitous Vegemite, something for which I think a taste has to be aquired while still a young child.

If I was ever to emmigrate from the U.S. my first three choices would be Canada, because of its proximity to the States, Australia because of its people and New Zealand because of its physical grandeur and beauty.

I dunno about Australia and New Zealand. They drive on the wrong side of the road on the wrong side of the car (while sober).

I am thinking about moving to Australia also after I finish up a couple years in the U.S. Navy. Here is my question.

    How is government in general?

Dull and uninteresting. We do not get the same level of crazy in our politics that Americans do.

The government is pretty big, I guess, but rarely offensive.
