Sexuality isn't a choice. That myth is based on the belief that everyone is bisexual and they choose to seek out attractions to either sex. That's not the case, as a heterosexual man, I have tried out of curiosity to view other men as attractive and can't "will" myself to feel that way. Not possible.

It is not necessarily based upon that belief.

It can be based upon the idea that sin is a judgment of action. You COMMIT a sin. So, when somebody says that homosexuality is a sin, there is an implication that the sexuality is something that somebody consciously did, or at least hasn't consciously changed from it. Therefore, a believer in sin would understand homosexuality as a choice.

I am, and that is what nature intended. Why else would we have different genders?

Religious bisexuals say "if God didn't want people to be bisexual, he wouldn't have created holes in their bodies" (I got that bit-o-wisdom off the internet)

I agree with this wholeheartedly. None of us are hardwired from birth to be attracted to any specific set of attributes.

I like women with nice shapely legs. I find it rather unbelievable this in something in my genetic code that demands I find that attractive.

Nobody can consciously control such things as axon-dendrite growth and connectivity, neurotransmitter levels at specific synaptic junctions, hypothalamic activity, glandular secretion levels, the plethora of biochemical pathways, or the specific DNA sequences and their outworking that determine the structure and functionality of the zillions of molecular electrostatic polarizations and alignments by which all of that aforementioned apparatus occurs.

Perhaps "not straight" would be a better choice of term. :D

So at what point in your conscious evaluation did you deliberately determine that enough information had been parceled, weighed, and analysed so that your little inner decision maker could then get the green light to establish that conscious conclusion? Or, isn't that quite the way it occurred? :-D

Well...they could be if they wanted to. If they are not currently straight they shouldnt be voting in the poll anyway.

Not necessarily. Gay could be wavy or curvy.

I don't think this thread is very truthful. I have quite a few homosexuals in my family. People that I love and I know their personal stories. EVERYONE is that way because of some event or series of event in their lives. Some of the events were seriuosly traumatic like a young girl being raped and then deciding girls were safer. To the boy that had no father and a domineering mom, then found comfort with his male "friend" at a young age. Then fell in love with a girl, who hurt him and he went back to his male friend.

I think if all of us were actually honest, we would all admit that there were times in our lives that we chose to have close personal relationships with others based on our circumstances and we had to chose which sex they would be with.

I think there are a whole lot of reasons one would chose to have a relationship with the same sex person as themselves. I think genetics has very little to do with it.

This issue is so political for everyone that no one wants to talk about what the real causes are.

Actually, my ex-wife came real close to changing my gender orientation. She failed but it wasn't for lack of trying.

This thread isnt an isolated example of this. MOST straight people I have asked (actually, come to think of it, all of them except one) in real life have said the exact same thing...that they did not think it was a conscious choice, and that they didnt believe they could choose their orientation.

So far I have never seen a single poll to the contrary. Not once.

That is not the same thing as being sexually attracted to a gender. This is not about forming an attraction to an individual, but to a gender.

Is it possible that your assumptions about the "real causes" are simply wrong? I mean, this poll is not even close.

This has been my argument all along. If the issue is so touchy that the people pushing it won't even have an open and honest discussion about it, then they shouldn't expect any kind of special treatment and they shouldn't expect the rest of society to just accept what they are pushing without question. That's arrogant, selfish, and unrealistic.
