I THINK A LOT OF BAD BAGGAGE GOES DOWN WHEN HISPANICS, IN PARTICULAR, SPEAK SPANISH RATHER THAN ENGLISH IN PUBLIC AND TO THEIR CHILDREN. . ..they have a right to do so but it alienates them from current citizens and exacerbates the ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION issue Thanks very much.

New immigrants who are older usually never become fluent in a new language. That's my situation in Mexico. I get by but no more. The next generation of immigrants is usually bilingual speak the old language at home with their parents and learning English quite naturally with other kids and in school. What is threatening out unity is, in my opinion, our loss of any sense of courtesy. We've become a nation of rude, self-centered people.

Forget your OP and forget your "survey". America shouls have English as the official language because the million laws we have on the books are all written in English. Think of a situation where someone is on death row and his life hangs on the interpretation of an English word. We need English for that sole reason. Should we go ahead and put it to paper? That is up for discussion, but if you're here, you should speak the language of the Constitution.
