I think it'll go into effect, should put alabama citizens back to work! It is a great law! It should be a deterent to illegals coming to alabama to live.

It could also be done for capricious & arbitrary reasons and/or retaliation purposes by some unscrupulous law enforcement officers as well. It opens a floodgate of potential abuses.

Arizona's SB 1070 law considered a valid driver's license to be a sufficient ID.

I believe the same is true for this law, but I need to check.

Why wouldn't someone who is driving have a driver's license? They already have grounds for detainment.

It's a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment. It will never go into effect.

I don't know how a drivers license is proof of citizenship when Illegals can get one in the state of Oregon and other states. Bizzarre right??

Oregon is ran by retards though so it may well be sufficient ID in a state not ran by idiots.

People drive without licenses all the time. Most of the time, it has to do with losing their license from a drunk driving offense.

    It would be reasonable but:

So I'm supposed to carry my papers around all day?

Well, I guess if you were an Oregon citizen visiting Alabama, yes. If you were from a state where they don't actually hand out licenses to illegals, then a driver's license would suffice.

Carrying a passport isn't too much to ask, IMHO.

Well, if they don't have a visa, green card, or passport, then they're illegally here anyway. They should carry at least one of the three.

Driver's license... If they don't have that, then they should have a Resident Alien card or (for someone born here) a regular ID in the driver's license format.

Think about it like this. Someone here that doesn't have some form of identification on them can't buy alcohol. They also can't buy certain other products. Some stores ask for ID when you use a credit card.

There are plenty of reasons to have some form of ID on you already, so a law that reinforces this isn't a bad thing.

Yeah, unfortunately, there is a lot of resistance to common sense policies.

Of course, but it was just said that a driver's licensee shouldn't qualify.

Only for the states that hand them out to illegals.

Someone from Oregon should have to present something besides a Driver's license.

Hopefully, this would encourage Oregon to change its policy on licenses, and then they could be made valid again.

    Because they're often ILLEGAL.

What's the sense in having a bunch of stupid people who have no common sense, especially those found in Alabama, gather together and create a "common sense" law?

So then I must ask, why is this part of the law necessary at all?
