Tyranny of the wealthy is not what America is built upon. We should all have a voice because we are Americans and the poor built this country. People that make very little money are also the ones that often work the hardest for what they do have. What you want is what every non free government wants to dominate the masses for their own ends and deny a voice too the people. If that is what you want move to Somalia or some banana republic your ideas should be very welcome. Me, I prefer America the beacon of freedom for the world.

    1) True. But the powerful who created and drove the engines of invention and progress are what the nation was built on and those people tended to be of means through money or political power. Often the money was derived based on their own hard work and inventiveness.
    2) The poor did not built the U.S. They helped, but it is grossly incorrect to claim the nation was built by the poor. Even if you stretched the metaphor to mean actual brick layers and general labor "built" things, such were not the poor classes, rather the lower middle and middle classes who got paid good wages for the work they did.
    3) Where did this stat come from? It sounds very made-up. the poorest are usually the minimum wage earners, I think we'd all agree. I've never seen or heard such low wage earners spending 12-14 hours a day, seven days a week leading a company and creating marketplaces and consumers for their products and services. It's always the movers and shakers and producers who work the hardest, and who have the most responsibility.
    4) Sounds like you're talking about the fundamental changes obama wants to make in the U.S. where the government DOES dominate the masses for their own ends. We are dangerously moving in the direction of oligarchy, led by the self professed power-to-the-government Obama.

Stopping dead people from voting reduces the number of voters and I'm all for it.

Does that mean you're opposed to the Democrat effort to disenfranchize the military?

The topic of this thread is absurd, and unconstitutional. The quality of posting in this forum is on the decline.

    1. In many ways I agree but I would say that the country was more built by the farmer, frontiersmen, and setler who were mostly poor and moving to find free land.

    2. I do include those kinds of people, you did not see the middle or upper classes building the railroads, mining the coal, or pushing the plow. The owners may have supplied the money but the sweat and blood came from the poor. (of course the machine age has lessoned this in modern times)

    3. Until recently the average day for a laberor was 12-14 hours a day 6 days a week, only with the advent of labor laws has that changed. Now many of the poor working class must work two jobs to support themselves.

    4. Obama has no clue what he is doing and I hope he will loose the election. The right to vote is garunteed and should not be taken away. We do not need another despotic government where the peeple have no voice.

Yes they should. I think the only restriction that should be put in place to prevent you from voting(two actually, the whole felony thing)is if you're not an American citizen. Other then that, you should be free to vote as you please.

    1) good point. Making the wilderness available for living conditions was indeed a powerful "building" aspect.
    2) really, those who were employed by industry since the industrial revolution tended to garner living wages. The "poor" were not the railroad workers, brick layers, bridge builders, etc.
    3) How do you define "recently"? the 12-14 hour work days have been gone for over 75 years. True, multiple jobs to make ends meet is not uncommon, and I'm all for it. good for those who have the desire to get ahead to work for it and not collect welfare.
    4) Amen to that!!!

There are a lot of veterans living on welfare. Why don't you be the one to propose that a vet living under an overpass with PTSS be chopped off the welfare rolls because he isn't paying taxes, eh?

Extreme cases as arguments for the entire welfare system are bogus, as you know. Nearly everyone has affirmed that those in need or disabled should be helped; vets with mental issues are in that category, so cut the crap. Welfare moms with multiple kids are not, nor are their lazy ass lovers. Period.

To preclude people from voting isn't democratic, and at a certain point becomes either a narrow democracy of a wide oligarchy.

I think we should replace our democratic system with a thugocracy where only ignorant thugs are allowed to have jobs and pay taxes and vote. Everyone else will be herded into open air health and welfare camps where they will learn to be good productive citizens for their next life since they will not be fed or otherwise taken care of because that would be a gross imposition on the hard working tax paying thugs, er citizens.

actually you are extremely annoying, with your always bolded font, and the complete nonsense you spout 95% of the time. I am not sensitive, nor a liberal, and I thought the mods actually made the correct call in banning you, this forum was better because of that action. unfortunately someone reinstated your account and now we have to deal with you again. I think you are a perfect example of why the ignore option exists, to deal with annoyance. Its not because of any threat you posses, your posts are a joke at best, and total unsubstantiated garbage at worst.

good idea, I have never used the ignore option before, because I think opposing arguments are great to facilitate discussion, and I learn from them, and learn from myself by compiling an evidenced counter-argument, but the posts from this person are beyond a waste of time to read. thanks for reminding me that I don't have to read this garbage anymore. there is now 1 person on my ignore list.

    >>>Alright, forget the special cases. What about the millions who were gainfully employed before the recession but have now exhausted their unemployment benefits? Is that a broad enough case for you?

I have a problem when welfare is abused. I wish it were easier to regulate without punishing people who genuinely need it for short term, disability, etc... but it's not. I could go on a rant all day in ways I've directly seen welfare being abused that has made my blood boil. I could also talk about how I've seen it save people from some terrible situations.

I also have a problem with trying to take away one of the basic rights this country was founded on. The right to vote should not be denied to any of the US citizens except for those who are excluded in the constitution.

    I was correct.

You are just an angry individual. Much like the other liberals in this country. Afraid of loosing their Free Goverment Welfare Checks every month.

Well, venting your anger on me.....because I state the facts.
Here is another Fact....It will be a great day when they cut-off Welfare to those that fail the mandatory drug test. That will eliminate about 85% of the low lifes.....
    "Say Whaaaaa"?

    I'm annoying to you?...That's Awesome.
