    William Shakespeare's Juliet, after all, was only thirteen and none of his contemporaries, to my knowledge anyway, suggested the narrative of Romeo and Juliet was implausible because Juliet was too young. They have sex, you know, Romeo and Juliet, just in case you forgot–or in case your high school teacher neglected to tell you for fear of being charged with peddling child pornography. The Elizabethans understood that teenagers were sexual beings. What happened between then and now? Is early adolescent asexuality a "discovery" of the Enlightenment?

    Being sexually attracted to teenagers is not pedophilia. Pedophilia is when an individual is primarily attracted to pre-pubescent children.

    As far as the OP goes, I wasn't aware that most teenagers WERENT engaging in sexual relations.

    Um.....Shakespearean plays are not meant as a guide for how to live your life. They were intended to move and entertain people.

    Romeo and Juliet also both committed suicide.....Would you advocate that?

    Most parents want their children to wait until thier emotionally development and sense of self catches up to their physicality.

    The title of this thread is assuming most teens don't already engage in sexual relations, specifically upper classmen in high school.

    If a teenager can support himself like an adult, then sure indulge in adult pleasures and accept the potential consequences.


    If they cannot, they should wait until they can. Too much at stake.

    The age of consent is normally a contentious issue. Historically, the age of consent was usually considered the onset of puberty, which was also the age of marriage in many cultures. The age of consent in the UK is 16 and it is younger in some countries. (I believe 14 in Spain, 15 in France, but I am not sure of the exact ages). It really comes down to an individual and their ability to comprehend the ramifications of their choices. Some people at 16 may be more mature than others at 18 or 20. This is not a simple subject for the law. Also, the article posted by the original poster was awful. It is rather laughable that the author was an academic.

    Pedophilia is wanting sex with children. According ot the law and society that includes individuals 15/16 and under.

    The term "early adolescent" which the OP includes in his sentiment is considered between 11-14. Any adult male that thinks these ages are appropriate for sex, clearly has issues. Studies show that around 4% of the population are pedophiles. Thats higher than Homosexual by the way. It doesn't surprise me that we get them here once in a while.

    Even if the OP was written by a teenage boy, I still have issues with him thinking its OK to engage in sex with a person in early adolescence.

    From a biological perspective beginning to engage in sexual behavior at a young age can be very dangerous. For example, having intercourse before 18 for females can almost triple a girls chance of cervical cancer, that and a woman's hips are not fully fussed until 25. Thus getting pregnant can cause problems later in their lives.

    Its natural to be curious, but it can by physically and emotionally dangerous.
