    What "kids"?

A person can get the idea of the extent of American "propaganda news control" by examining American vs. Foreign news of this subject.

It is devilishly hard to find these "kids" ages in American news sources.

But a British newspaper tells you immediately that the youngest "kid" is 27, the oldest "kid" is 36!!!!!

"It seems unlikely they are CIA"? How would anyone reading US news sources have a clue???

Never mentioned either is that one "kid" is from an Iraqi family "exploring his roots", a country at odds with Iran as long as the USA is in control.

How long would some Iranian 30 plus-year-olds caught "hiking" in the USA on the Canadian border be held incommunicado at Guantanamo Bay before being released?

Quite the contrary, Snake! The Iranians began crapping their pants when it was announced that Ronald Reagan had won an gigantic victory over Jimmy Carter. This was back on the American Election Day, early in the previous November, over two months before Ronald Reagan's inauguration....

Carter scrambled and scratched to try to get them to let the Americans go while he was still in office, but the Iranians were having no part of that! They despised him as a spineless coward and had no incentive to do anything to appease him!

Reagan, however, was an entirely different concern.... The Iranians didn't want to do anything to make Ronald Reagan more angry than he already was, and so their "magnanimity" in releasing our people was carried out in a time-frame to try to placate Reagan, and only Reagan!

Or tell us, Snake, if you remember it differently...? Speaking as you do, with such, uh, authority, you must have lived through it, too... right, Snake...?

In Iran's Evin prison the two American fellows will be forced to assume the role of women.

I knew some US advisers to the Shah.. they were too close to the circle of elites and gave bad intel.

They never saw the Iranian Revolution coming.

Oh, wait! The youngest was 27. YOUR president Obama advocates education to improve reading skills, give it a try!

Uh, would you like to tell me which part I got wrong, and maybe give me just ONE example, or will you just snipe from the side of the road, like so many others like you do....

Lotsa disagreements for many years about exactly what that actually consisted of, but holding it aside for a minute... what's this got to do with the Ayatollah Khomeini regime releasing American Embassy hostages who had been during the Carter presidency for 444 days to the United States of Ronald Reagan?! Suggest you open a new thread on the completely different topic of "Iran-Contra" if that amuses you....

You hyperlibs just can't stay on topic, or validate your claim when you say somebody's got their history wrong, can you?

You have exactly NO evidence the "Iranians were crapping their pants" as their motivation for releasing the hostages 5 minutes after Reagan's inauguration speech.

While there is little DIRECT proof that Reagan had made a deal with the Iranians to hold the hostages to sabotage Carter's run for presidency, that fact weapons began flowing to Iran very shortly after the hostage release sure indicates Reagan had MORE going on with Iran than only your suggested "intimidation".

Margot,, you hit the nail right on the head.

If you jump the border in any country without your travel documents in place, you will be detained.

Don't paint all Muslim countries with the same brush. Malaysia for example is a great country for a holiday, even for Americans. Beautiful scenery and wonderful people.

You use the term "direct" evidence. Since you have chosen that term, I presume you are familiar with the rules of evidence. This is your opportunity to present your "direct" evidence. Do so if you have such evidence. Innuendo is not direct evidence. Show us what you have.

The three Americans in question violated Iranian law just as illegal aliens from Mexico violate American law by crossing the American border without travel documents. America doesn't jail Mexicans for eight years for crossing the border illegally. America used to deport them. Not it generally does nothing. So there is a major difference in the way America and Iran react to illegal border crossers.

Yes they do. They get to do whatever they want. Open borders for them.

    OK,, understand.

But,, these Americans were stupid. Here are people from a developed country (USA) skipping the border into a lesser developed country (Iran) without travel documents, Visas etc in place. And having known the political situation in Iran it makes it all double stupid.

Three colleagues of mine, two Brits and an Australian just returned from North Korea. They went there out of curiousity and just to check the place out. They had all their documents in order before arrival. They had no problems, were treated well and had a good time.

Also, colleagues and friends regularly travel to Myanmar. All come back after having a good time. But travel documents are always in place.

Look,, people skipping the border from undeveloped countries into developed counties is a common as the noses on people's faces. Happens all over the world. But, people from developed countries skipping the border into undeveloped countries without the correct travel documents is rarer, especially if the country of entry has an axe to grind.

I would guess that's why they went hiking there in the first place.... looking for an adventure that would permanently change their lives forever.

I'm packing for North Korea... anyone wanna go for an adventure of a lifetime? The way I see it, there is a narrow stretch of land that borders Russia and it's pretty easy to get into Russia these days. We can enter and "tipey-tow" around and see what the North Koreans are up to... not as spies... just out of curiousity and the thrill of an exciting adventure.

p.s. Don't forget to tell your mother you love her before you leave.

This comparison is most certainly invalid.

I would suggest America would react very differently to IRANIAN border crossers caught without authorization.

If they were spies they were so bad at it that they should have been arrested. No fake papers? Nothing?

Besides, you can spy much better with a cell phone interceptor these days than going into the woods.
