In a political move that has to considered a grand case of rope-a-dope, President Obama has allowed the Republicans to cast themselves as opposing a jobs bill in order to protect millionaires from a tax increase. Obama allowed the GOP to well define their position over a 3 year period as the party of no and no tax increases on the rich. The President then drops a multi-point jobs program combined with a new higher base tax rate on millionaires and threatens a veto if a bill comes back without revenue increases. Bang! That was an uppercut to the Republicans and they realized that they were trapped and screamed about class warfare. Now the GOP realizes the nation watches to see if they will side with job creating policies or protecting millionaires from a tax increase.

Republicans understand that government doesn't create jobs with a net gain on the economy.

Spending billions of dollars trying to do so... again, is a waste of money.

It has nothing to do with millionaires.

    Be honest.

    Millionaires are citizens too man.

I know you liberal hacks want everyone to think they are demons or something.

Government shouldnt steal ANYONES money, regardless of their class standing, this is America!

The Government has proven they are incompetent in spending matters, why the hell would you want them to have more that isnt theirs..?

Taxing (stealing) from the rich simply takes money out of the private sector so the government can flush it down the toilet.

Liberals are too stupid to realize this.

P.S. you libs are naive to think the "taxing" (stealing) stops with the rich, the Governments wants EVERYONES money so they can control you, its all about control.

It's sad that some people have no idea how jobs are created. And how tax rates do not have any impact on job creation. If people need a lesson, I'll help out, it's basic economics after all.

The point of this is that many of the "rich" are not even paying the same tax rate as the middle class (while many of the "rich" are paying higher). There should be limits on those that take abusive deductions or only pay capital gains tax, so that they are at least paying the same rate as the middle class.

Like it or not, the government's debt has an impact on the economy, and so getting that debt under control is vital to improving the economy. This includes increaseing revenue and cutting spending, both.

Rich people are so mean and selfish.

They study longer, graduate higher, work harder, invest their money wisely.

How insensitive the rich are to the Obama voters who have none of those qualities but still expect the same or nearly the same standard of living.

Too bad the Republicans never understood that irresponsible tax cuts while starting two wars and offering sweetheart deregulation and contracts to mega-corps with tax payer revenues has put us in the worst economic shape outside the Great Depression in our nations history. And yet, here you all are, spewing the need for even LOWER taxes this time, as if shutting off the government entirely is going to get rich, greedy hoarders that sock their money into custom built (through Republican policy and loopholes) investment vehicles the common man can't invest in to somehow start devying up that money by creating jobs and sharing it with the masses.

    Be honest.

Warren Buffet voted for Obama, as did Bill Gates. What exactly is your opinion of them?

And Hen is so bloated with Koolaid he actually believes this administration has "job creating policies". What they have, Hen, is tax and spend policies. I think people realize that.

    Really.

That is the cause of the recession now?

It used to be greedy bankers, until we found out those bankers mostly were the governments.

Now suddenly its tax cuts and a war that caused the recession.

You should have no trouble backing this up with some credible statements from economists that agree that Iraq and the tax cuts were the cause of the recession.

Ill wait. In the name of honesty of course.

No, a recession is a recession. Its part of an economic cycle. This recession has mostly been CAUSED by the uncertainty of the Arab Spring and the default problems with Europeon countries related to the Euro. The Bush problems are whats inhibiting our country from pushing out of the recession more quickly. The Republicans in Congress are blocking any and all sensible legislation as they continue to intentional be destructive in order to capture the White House back. Our nation has ALWAYS come out of recession, and it will again soon. The problem right now is that we are revenue strapped, locked in two quagmires in the middle East, and still bearing the brunt of irresponsible tax cuts coupled with even more irresponsible loophole legislation thats allowed American businesses to reap record profits, pay not taxes on those profits, and ship jobs overseas in order to increase those profits, all through investment vehicles that are unfair to the common consumer and should be outlawed immediately (once again, policies blocked by Republicans all of the last 3 years).

Gettign into a recession is easy, it happens all the time through history and is healthy for any society (we can't always grow, its impossible). Getting out of a recession is whats important and the primary role the government can aid in. Through the ENTIRE scope of systemic problems created by Bush, we're seeing the difficulties left to Obama in actually helping our nation and those nations causing THIS recession.

I love that fact that Republicans are basking in our nations failure. You're wide eyes and evil smiles are disgusting in the face of human tragedy. People ARE suffering, if even in the short term, and most of the reason is your parties inability to compromise, work together, and do what's right in any way shape or form for our nation. You're not patriots, your selfish, greedy propogandists who would rather see our nation burn than swallow your pride and do whats right and necessary to prosper for everyone, rather than your elite cadre of idiots in power.

The only reason Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich, is because there are less rich than poor or middle class.

Had it been the other way around, he would be doing the opposite.

Lol at they work harder. Is that why the rich never take vacations? Because they are working so long and hard? Oh wait... they do take vacations... lots of them. Well, all that "hard work" leaves them with a lot of free time.

As businessmen they are both pretty smart.

    Particularly Buffet.

I suppose they mean well but their opinions of social policy - including taxation, but really the whole scope and purpose of government - are goofy.

I don't agree with them about that and have little respect for their opinion.

Socialism isn't for the socialist, its for everyone else. People like Obama, Gates and Buffet are in a protected class.

Don't you know anything about marxism?

It's a rope-a-dope alright. Only problem is... Obama is the one who comes out looking dopey. After all, a secret strategy only works if you keep it a secret. Headlines have been screaming for weeks, "OBAMA TRYING TO SET UP REPUBLICANS TO BE FALL GUYS IN THE 2012 ELECTIONS."

    Nobody's buying it.

It was forming a bubble that was doomed to burst. There have been economists that had predicted this back in 2005 I believe was the earlist.
