Hey, this is a fun little thing I think you guys could help me out with. I am a senior in high school, and in my Participation in Government class we have to make a blog in which we post about a particular political issue. Not to sound elitist, but as you can probably guess by my very presence on this forum that I am well more politically aware than almost everyone else in the class (it's a class which all seniors must take, and I live in a very blue-collar lower-middle class town). So, I wanted to avoid a basic topic such as "Legalization of Marijuana" or "Gay Marriage", I would have no fun doing those. I'm not able to simply have a blog in which I discuss my opinions on things, it needs to be more focused on that. As of now, I have it titled "Corruption USA". I think with that, I can stay relatively broad and target both Republicans and Democrats. However, I'd like to possibly be a little more broad than that. So, I thought maybe you guys could help me come up with a topic for my blog. I'd like to do something in which I can criticize politicians both Republican and Democrat. One of my friends is doing "Obama's Failed Economic Policies", so something along those lines. Thanks guys.
You could talk about how the American people are being double teamed by the political leadership on both sides. Like the presidents. Bush, Obama, Clinton are all the the same team. http://www.robodoon.com/carol_quigley.htm We are being double teamed and played for fools! Hegelian dialectic, two forces aligned against one another. One is thesis, the other antithesis. The conflict will produce a synthesis; in this case, the loss of national sovereignty and the end of freedom. Lately I realize this more and more, how we live under a one-party system. I could very well simply title my blog in relation to our "One-Party System" and talk about things that show how Republicans and Democrats truly aren't different. After looking at some examples, I might also do "Federal Spending", something that I can target both Republicans and Democrats for AND can focus on essentially any issue. For example, I could bring in the War on Drugs, and talk about why it's okay to give up federal spending on that.
Hi, I am also a high school senior, so it's good to know there is more than one of us. What I would focus on would be the power of corporations in politics, and how special interests dominate legislation and play a large part in the electoral prospects of politicians both Republican and Democrat. An interesting article you could reference came out of Time Magazine just over a year ago, I think it was titled "The Best Government Money Can Buy" about the power of special interests in Washington. You could also google lobbyist to Congressman ratio. Another related subtopic you could cover could be the narrowness of the American Political Spectrum, and how America is much farther to the right than other developed western nations.
That's an excellent idea, another thing you can attack both Republicans and Democrats for is the war crimes committed under presidents of both parties.
Here are some links referencing American interventions and atrocities around the world committed by Presidents of both parties: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_Haiti http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubana_Flight_455 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Chilean_coup_d'état http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_Guatemalan_coup_d'état http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d'état It's just a taste of the realities of American foreign policy.
I'm not really sure what to make of you. On a personal level, what we both have in common is that we both are "lower middle class". However, I live in a really wealthy neighborhood and from experience I probably live a better life than you (because I know how American friends of mine live that say they are "middle class" with 2 parents working and only 1 brother/sister -- and we live a (far) better lifestyle). Judging by your signature of: ... I'd say you are a sell-out. This, again, is a shame because I would advise you to take a closer look on the wide-spread and rampant poverty in the United States. I bet you have seen the newly-issued figures. I also couldn't find any worse topic than "Obama's Failed Economic Policies" -- because my first question would be: which economic policies? Didn't realized he had'm?! Social mobility in the USA is in the toilet, too. The USA has the same rate of inequality (= measured by the GINI coeffecient) as e.g. China, Tanzania, Argentina, Nepal, etc. => This is the true failure of American politics, no -- of the entire American population.
I just realized that equality in India, despite it caste system, is higher than in the USA. Now, if I were American, all sorts of alarms, bells and other sorts of nasty would go off instantly.
I like this title. 75% of politics today is rhetoric. The title "One-party system" is going to have some eyebrows raised.
Why not discuss Czars, Executive orders, and the ever expanding power of the Executive branch? That would go back a ways, and cover both parties.
I'm not following you. First of all, I don't understand how I'm a "sellout" for being a social libertarian. Please explain that to me.
http://federalspending.tumblr.com/ This is what I have as of now. Feel free to follow me if you'd like.
How about doing it on the rank partisanship and hostile behavior exhibited by members of congress. That is certainly something you can accuse both parties of engaging in.
