Even the medical profession itself acknowledges that this is the primary attraction of alternate medicines But then alternate medicines have not had the huge liability payouts that are driving medicine to earn more to pay for the insurance
agree. I think there is often a misunderstanding of what homeopathy is. clearly, a lot of people get it confused with both naturopathy and I guess what might be loosely termed as vitamin therapy.
And does mean to you that it is stupid? The mind plays a huge role in healing, regardless of the modality.
Yes, but modern medicine gives the same psychological advantages, as well as true biochemical help. I think the key is to reform medical doctors, or create a new class of medical workers (that aren't basing their treatment on some magical vital force like homeopaths).
Yes, I am; no, we aren't all idiots. Adults are more likely to spurn evidence, more bound to unjustified tradition, and less capable of innovation. This quality may encourage some to embrace ridiculous and unrealistic nonsense, e.g., homeopathy. The majority of the time, however, it causes us to embrace new ideas that are, in actuality, more valid than those espoused by the establishment of adults, whose only law is blind inertia and whose only goal is the preservation of the status quo. Homeopathy is nonsense; that much is clear. "Teenager," however, should not be construed as a term of dismissal or insult. Concentrate on a person's epistemology, not their age.
Not really. If it did, people wouldn't be turning in droves to complementary medicine for that sort of help. I'd be happy to see people become more skeptical and careful about the information they accept, but I don't favor top-down, autocratic approaches. If we had a free market in medicine, entrepreneurs would create that sort of system. They already are, to the degree that they can, by starting medical clinics that do not take insurance or government money and provide greater care on a subscription type basis.
Hang on, our future King supports the use of Homeopathy. You're not calling him an i... Oh, ... hang on.
I tend to feel the same way about people who believe that government can "fix" or control the climate or central plan the monetary system. However, believing that does not make it true. The issues are usually far more complex than that.
Sweetie - you only think that now because your brain is going through some mega re-organisation and you are kicking up your cognitive abilities one or two notches - get to 50 and see if you have the same belief Lols no, it has more to do with a complete lack of understanding of scientific principles This bit I do agree with - but mostly what does improve with age (while everything else heads downward) is your ability to THINK!!
Scabies and head lice irk me too - does not mean that because I do not see a benefit that someone somewhere won't try to "sell" them as the "new cure"
The ability to synthesize information improves with age, but analytical skill diminishes, as does willingness to defy the status quo. This is why, for example, Einstein didn't revolutionize the field of science when he was sixty; he stuck to his preconceptions, failed to appreciate quantum dynamics, and let his dogma lead him away from productive inquiry.
don't be so ageist! a lot of teenagers are really very concrete in their thinking as well .... as evidenced by the belief common among some that anyone over thirty can't embrace new ideas, adapt to change etc. in any age group - the proportion of people who are really prepared to evaluate new information and step out of the comfort zone is ... unfortunately ... relatively rare.
me too! but re the irksomeness of homeopathy .... I think I would prefer homeopathy over urotherapy if they were the only choices I had. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urine_therapy
Urine is good for box jellyfish stings if you cant get a hold of vinegar. I live in the vain hope that one day I will be walking down the beach and see Tony Abbot stumbling out of the water in agony after being stung.
